I submitted http://terralindavet.com to the category
http://dmoz.org/Health/Animal/Veterinary_Medicine/Veterinarians/United_States/California/ some months ago. Since there is currently no editor for that category will it remain in the queue - to be listed or rejected - until an editor is found? Is it considered bad form to submit to the next existing editor up the hierarchy if there's no current editor in the appropriate category location? (my apologies if this is the case)

Any info much appreciated!

No category is abondoned. If is has no listed editor, editors from parent categories or editall editors (a "higher class" of editors) will look after it. For example, Health/Animal/Veterinary Medicine/Veterinarians/United States/California hasn't got a listed editor, but the editor of Health/Animal/Veterinary Medice can edit there.

(Yes, it is considered bad form to submit to the next editor up in the hierarchy. He would have to find out which category is the right one and move the submission back down. Just totally unnecessary and useless work.)

However, there is a lack of editors in this part of the directory causing a delay in the review of submissions. There are about 20 sites waiting in the queue of that category at the moment. (Please note that I don't have editorial privileges in this part of the directory, so I couldn't check whether your site is among them.) As editors don't have a schedule or a set workload but work voluntarily, we don't know when someone will come to clear up the queue.

You may also submit your site to the category of your locality, Regional/North America/United States/California/Localities/S/San Rafael/Business and Economy. This won't affect your chances in the other category (you may be listed both in Health and in Regional), and Regional reviews are often faster. At the moment, there's not a single site waiting for review in the San Rafael categories, so you might be listed quite fast there.

It's there in the queue. Don't worry, there are hundreds of editors that can see that submission, so it won't be there forever. It is a bad idea to submit further up the tree, the editor there will only have to move your submission back down to the correct category.

Darn uzs980 beating me to it.

Thanks uzs980 - I've submitted to the regional category and hopefully we'll get listed one of these days! Regarding submissions to other levels of the hierarchy I was apparently given bad advice on another forum; I'll direct those contributors/readers to this forum/thread for reference.

Perhaps the advice they meant to give you was for you to contact editors further up the tree if your site doesn't get listed in a timely manner, not to resubmit the site to a category further up the tree.
