We had tried to submit our web site to the http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Directories/ page, however, as you are probably aware, there is no "ADD URL" within this section.

In a lame attempt to have our site added, we ended up submitting it to the http://www.dmoz.org/Business/Resources/Directories/ page, which was the closest we could find that has an "add url" on it.

After someone has viewed our site, you will see that it would not belong here, and that it would be suitable for the http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Directories/ page.

Our site is:

24-7 Shopping Mall Directory
http://www.24-7shoppingmall.com

Your attention to this would be greatly appreciated. I am not sure if I will get any response, but I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Thank you in advance,

Michael.

Checking in...

Hi Alucard,

I had sent the below message approximately just over 2 weeks ago, and had not heard anything back. I was not sure if my message had just been overlooked, or what the case was.

I do not want to be a pest, but would be interested in the status of our listing.

I did notice again, that the "http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Directories/" section had been updated again without our update.

I look forward to your response.

(an email reply would be greatly appreciated, however a posting will also do).

Cheers.

Hi Alucard,

I have a question regarding our submission from March 22 (or 23rd), with http://www.24-7shoppingmall.com to the http://dmoz.org/shopping/directories/ category.

I went in to check to see if it had been posted, and noticed that the last revision date was March 29th? A couple of questions regarding this is, one, right up until April 8th, it had last revision of March 10th, and two, IF the last revision date was March 29th, and we had our site submitted before this date, does this mean that the editor for some reason found some problem with our site and decided not to post it? If this is the case, how would I find out what the problem was, and how to resolve it?

We have had fantastic feedback about our site, and are eager to have it listed.

Again, thank-you for your time, I look forward to your response.

Could you please reply to "michael@24-7shoppingmall.com"

Best regards,

Michael.

The URL you name now awaits editorial review in category http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Directories/

Thanks!

The category changed because some editor thought it needed to be. It will change every time a single site, or related category, is changed.

When you suggest a URL, it's not automatically dropped into the directory next time that category is updated. It is merely added to a pool of sites that any editor may review when they are working on that category. A site won't be added without that review. And note that any editor MAY review it -- there's nothing that says "MUST" and nothing that suggests any particular time frame.

You also have no way of knowing when an editor might review the site, or whether one did. It might appear in your server logs -- or it might not, depending on how that editor chose to visit the site.

Even we don't know when an editor visits a site. All we know is if they made a decision (to list, or not to list, or to categorize it elsewhere.)

Sounds good...

Gentlemen,

You have cleared up alot of the fog for us (I did not realize about the pool, etc. It does make sense though).

Again, thank-you, we will sit back and just be patient (good things come to those who wait...).

Best regards,

Michael.

Pool...

Just out of curiousity, how many sites can end up in a pool on a given day? How long can they typically sit in a pool before being reviewed? Do they have a date on them when they enter the pool to flag editors if they have been there for a long time?

Sounds very interesting... No wonder so many editors are required... Perhaps something to look into...

There is no limit to the size of the pool and the time a given site remains in it is essentially indeterminable. All submissions are dated, but editors are under no obligation to use the date of submission as a criterion for chosing sites to review.

Your question seems to have been answered. Your last status request was answer April 24. Was there something else you needed to know?

24-7 Shopping Mall / Spam

Gentlemen,

It has been brought to our attention about a particular email that has been sent out to a number of DMOZ customers recently.

The situation had arisen when we had mentioned to an associate, that if he knew of some further people that would be interested in listing with us, by all means let them know. We would also enhance his listing if he were to refer some listings.

As it stands, his heart was bigger than his brain, and he did send some messages to some people within DMOZ. We have asked him to please cease and desist from this action or his listing may be at stake along with our reputation. In his defense, as he is not very computer literate, he did send every email as a separate email and had received a number of positive responses.

We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. Again, he has agreed to cease and desist as he did not realize the problems it would cause.

Regards,

Michael

New format...

Quick question (I know your all swampped).

If I am not mistaken, I have seen some new "categories". Including a "Shopping / Directories" section.

Could someone please advise if and when we are approved, which area we could find our site listed within?

Regards,

Michael

We won't know until someone approves it.
