Hello,

I have submitted “absfasteners.com,” a leader in the industrial fasteners industry, 10 times since December 2001 - each submission with a minimum of a 3-week interval. I have requested feedback on non-listing several times without response.

Top: Business: Construction and Maintenance: Materials and Supplies: Nails, Screws and Fasteners (179)

http://dmoz.org/Business/Construction_and_Maintenance/Materials_and_Supplies/Nails,_Screws_and_Fasteners/

Our site is:

*Fast loading / under 20 sec.
*Of original content
*Browser cross compatible
*Free of broken links
*No splash page
*Navigation is straightforward
*Site is complete
*Has respectable traffic
*Etc., Etc.

After almost a full year, I would greatly appreciate understanding why this site has not been included? I am a professional. All of my correspondence has been polite and will continue to be. As such, I would greatly appreciate the professional courtesy of a thoughtful response to my inquiry.

Thank You, Joe Latiolait

Please supply clickable links to all categories that have you submitted to. <edit> Thanks. Hmm, is that all of the categories, just the one? </edit>

Your submission was moved from http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Business_and_Economy/ (unrev) to http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Business_and_Economy/Industries/ (unrev) about 6 weeks ago, where it is still waiting (you didn't mention this one). If you submitted anyplace else then I assume that it is still waiting there, as there are no other editor notes indicating that it was deleted or moved elsewhere.

Someone else may be able to check the queue in the category that you mentioned; are you sure that there are no other categories? Either way someone has 9, or more, duplicate submissions to delete.

Submitting ten times is rather over the top. I hope someone doesn't view that as spam. As I recently said in another thread:

>> So far, you should have found the ONE best category in the Topical (i.e. By Subject) categories (or World categories for non-English sites), and the ONE best category in the Regional (i.e. By Location) categories. You should have submitted once to each of these.

>> If nothing happens within say 4 to 6 weeks, then you may submit again; just in case the submission was not received or has been lost. After that you should not resubmit again. Multiple submissions begin to look like spam. In any case, when editors look at a category they will clear all duplicate submissions within that category, keeping the newest, then add sites starting with the oldest. So, resubmitting puts you to the back of the queue each time.

>> Since you already submitted to the one best category, submitting again to other categories just wastes editing time as the submission has to be moved back to the correct category, and then these multiple submissions all being sent over to the correct category begin to look like spam, and each one pushes your site review to the back of the queue.

>> Advice: wait 4 weeks and ask again if you see no change. Either ask here in this thread (which will move to the top of the list every time a new message is added), or write to the editor of the category, or categories above. Whatever you do, please don't resubmit again. <<

We don't treat this forum as an opportunity to 'jump the queue'. Any editor who sorts out that category will be expected to deal with all of the submissions there rather than just clear one that was asked about here.

A few pointers about a few points you raised:

>> a leader in the industrial fasteners industry << >> Has respectable traffic <<

We don't care if you are a leader or an upstart in any industry - it's the website that really counts not your business model or your customer profile. Plus "a leader" really falls into the same category as "the best" and "most comprehensive": i.e. extremely difficult for us to prove.

>> Fast loading / under 20 sec. << >> No splash page <<

Good, but not really important. Most sites do load under 20 seconds for me (on ADSL), but the same site may take longer on a 28.8Kbps modem (and some editors do still have them). I've yet to see any reason for a splash page and they do just waste editors time.

>> Of original content << >> Site is complete <<

Good, because if it was of duplicate content, it wouldn't be listed at all. Plus we don't tend to accept sites that seem to be "under construction".

>> Browser cross compatible <<

Good, plus it doesn't look too bad via Lynx - however, it fails to validate.

>> I am a professional <<

I'm not saying anything - my fellow editors know my way of thinking and probably know what my dirty mind is thinking when I see that statement.

>> I would greatly appreciate understanding why this site has not been included <<

Ok, first of all: NO site is guaranteed a listing. And, secondly, we have a massive backlog of unreviewed sites all throughout the directory, but only a finite number of volunteers to review them. That doesn't include the time taken to remove spam, deadlinks, correct speleing mistokes, move categories, and approve editors (metas only). I've seen some sites sitting in the unreviewed queue since 1998 in the past 2 weeks, but sometimes I've reviewed a site that was submitted less than 5 minutes ago.

>> I have requested feedback on non-listing several times without response. <<

How did you request feedback? Editors are reluctant to reply to submitters emails because of the backlash that many many of us have had in the past: the phrase "once bitten, twice shy" comes to mind.

Ok, now I've given giz enough time to finish editing his post I can have a look at the category in question myself. I can tell you that your site is still awaiting review - but along with around 400 other sites in that category. Resubmitting your site *may* move it to the 'end of the queue' (as some editors have the unreviewed queue showing in 'oldest first' order and newer submissions of the same URL overwrite old ones- hence your resubmitting just pushed your site nearer the back of the queue).

It may be a few more months before your site gets reviewed - but it is nothing targeted at your site in particular, that category is just massively backlogged.

As far as I can see, your site is sitting in three unreviewed queues:
1. Regional/North_America/United_States/Business_and_Economy/Industries
2. Business/Construction_and_Maintenance/Materials_and_Supplies/Nails,_Screws_and_Fasteners/Distributors
3. Business/Construction_and_Maintenance/Materials_and_Supplies/Nails,_Screws_and_Fasteners

and wherever else you have submitted it.

The unreviewed queues in Business categories are sometimes very long, your submission to Regional may be reviewed faster, but I can't guarantee that. All I can say is that your submissions haven't been deleted, and that you'll have to be patient.

I've just done a partial "rubbish clear" of the unreviewed queue (removing things like deeplinks, moving some foreign language sites to the appropriate queues etc etc) and the queue size has dropped around 100 to just over 300 now... But that entire area of the ODP is very backlogged- so it will be a few months.

hello,

thank you again for the informative responses i received 3 months ago. however, after "several (3) months" ABS web site has yet to be listed?

is there ANYTHING i can do at this point to get this site listed with your VERY important direcotry? i have been waiting 13 months since my first submission and have made every effort to violate no ODP guidlines (i'm almost sure that i haven't).

PLEASE inform and assist further on this matter.

respectfully, joe

Hello,

At this point, I fear my attempts many months ago to get http://www.absfasteners.com listed with ODP may have been deemed "Rejected, and not likely to be accepted anywhere,” or even SPAM.

Submitting to multiple categories, multiple times in the past was facilitated by advice I located on public forums, as I was not aware of this ODP resource for feedback at the time. We believe ABS web site is legitimate and unique by any measure and wish only to have it listed with your influential directory.

Per most recent ODP suggestions (see above), I have made no additional post feedback submissions to ODP directory. I have not attempted to contact ODP editors (see above).

It has been 4 months since receiving this feedback. Would it be possible to be advised of our specific circumstances?
