Hi Jimmy,

we ask all our submitters to wait at least six months between each status request; you are welcome back for another report on or after Dec 7 if you haven't seen your site listed before then. (The 6-month-wait has nothing to do with the speed of review in the ODP, it's just a way of managing the volume of requests here at Resource-Zone.) Thanks for your patience! :flower:

The previous post was not only unhelpful, the lack of information and evident lack of concern was a bit aggravating. Maybe it wasn't intended to be that way but that was the effect. Patience rests an assumption of a certain amount of goodwill. If you guys aren't interested, why do the job?

I _do_ understand that a huge backlog can build up in some categories. It would be helpful to know if that is the problem here or if there is some other reason that actually disqualifies the site for inclusion.

Basically, like most submitters-in-limbo, I just want to know whether it's 1. something I can fix; 2. something that I should just accept; 3. something I should not accept.

Is this kind of question beyond the scope of this forum?

Please don't tell me to wait another six months! That was ok the first time.

Yes, we ask you to wait another six months. I'm sure the answer you would like to see, it that you site was reviewed and accepted, but since it wasn't, the only other answer we could give are: rejected, or no change.

There is no other other answer that we could possibly provide since no-one has reviewed your site. I suppose we could ask each of the many hundred editors who could have reviewed your site, why they didn't. If they answered they could say things like:

I only reviewed one site in the last four months, and it wasn't that one
I reviewed 6,000 sites in the last few months, and none of them was that one.
If I really worked harder I might have got around to reviewing that one, but I have a family to support, and just don't have any more time to give.
I looked at that category, and although I could edit the sites there - I'm not the least bit interested in revewing that kind of site.

The problem is that you think that ODP is a service for site owners like you - that guaranteees to do things in some sort of linear fashion - but it's not. It's a directory manned by volunteers that works quite effectively in it's own way, each volunteer chooses to work when and where they want, and we do end up adding lots of sites every day. We don't claim to list every site, and probably never will.

If you had read the forum FAQ, you might have been able to answer this yourself.

Hey, don't shoot the messenger. There are millions of people on earth who will tell you what you want to hear, whatever it is. Here, all we have is the facts.

As for your question about other sites waiting review in that category -- you can answer that yourself. You can Google for your competition, and (knowing the industry) you can probably do that better than we can.

But that would not be useful information anyway. That category is mostly maintained by editors who have privileges to edit many other categories -- and we neither impose nor track their choice of which of those categories to work on. So with me, you might be waiting behind symphony orchestras or classical drama; with another editor, behind Libraries or Texas businesses; with yet another, behind basketball teams and Madonna fan sites; with another, behind biological research firms and online florists. Who knows? Who can know? Whose business is it?

Each editor chooses what to be most concerned about. The result is intended to be a close-to-random sampling of what concerns a particular kind of surfers (directory users). We do not feel a need to apologize for our unique emphasis on information and community (as opposed to marketing and commerce).
