Hi, could you please update me on the status of my site "Ambient Creations Digital Stock Photography"? I submitted it on 4/25/02, and still it is not listed. I submitted to the category: Business: Industries: Arts & Entertainment: Photography: Stock: Companies

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I didn't really understand your reply. Should I resubmit my site with the "index.html" extension? I received another reply from thehelper who said that there was no "target" and that was why it hadn't been looked at. Please guide me on this. I'd be happy to resubmit. Would it help the DMOZ if I volunteered to be an editor in this catagory? That's a huge backlog--I've been waiting since April.

Hi. My site has been waiting in unreviewed since last April, as you'll see in the earlier threads in this post. In July I resubmitted it an another category and it's still not listed. Any information you could provide would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.
 

Hi, could you check and see how my site is doing? Is it moving any closer towards being listed? (As mentioned in the earlier threads to this post.) I've been waiting to get listed for over six months now, so any information you could provide would be a little ray of hope.

To apply to be an editor, go to the category and click on the "Become an editor" link (or just go directly to http://dmoz.org/cgi-bin/apply.cgi?where=Business/Arts_and_Entertainment/Photography/Stock/Companies/North_America ). Then read all of the information, then read it again and click on all the links and read them too. Then go away and think about it for a couple of days. If you're still enthused at that point, come back and make your application.

Too many people get all excited, don't read the guidelines, then get disheartened when their application is rejected. If you're serious about becoming an editor, reading (and understanding and following) the guidelines is the single most important thing you can do before applying.
 

Hmm, I had a quick look at your site, especially the licencing section, and the description you submitted. Is your offer really royalty-free (pay once, unlimited use)?

And yes, new editors in Photography are welcome. Just do what dfy suggested.

That's not an incredible offer, lots of photographers do that.

It's not like "hotel reservations" (which is basically always affiliate spam) or "six figure income" (which is either counting it in yen, or lying.

No reason to doubt it.

I know, I've been editing for quite a while now in Arts/Photography. <img src="/images/icons/cool.gif" alt="" /> My intention was not to suggest that this is affiliate spam.

After a quick look at the licence terms this doesn't look like 'unlimited use' to me, and in that case the submission is not misplaced.

On the other hand I found 'royalty free' in the submitted description. In case I misunderstood the licence terms and the offer really is 'unlimited use', then this site should have been submitted to the Stock/Royalty Free subcategory.

Hi guys, thanks for all the interesting info. And you are all right. Our license agreement offers "royalty-free" for most uses. Some uses which would involve reproducing mass amounts of something which the buyer would then resell, would require a separate license. But this is the way that most royalty free stock companies sell their product now. So you are all right, but it still leaves us with the question did I submit to the appropriate category? I guess it depends upon where my competition is listed. It's true we aren't a traditional stock photography company which sells it's photos for extremely high prices for one use only. We're in truth more like a royalty-free company, only our license has a few caveats, which is pretty common. Does that help?
 

I had a closer look at some other sites, in Royalty Free as well as in the other Stock Photography categories, and it indeed looks like your licence terms are closer to Royalty Free than to traditional stock. The latter ones often request further information on the intended usage before pricing, you don't.

I'll move your submission over to Royalty Free, you don't need to resubmit. The unreviewed queue there is less than 100 sites.

Unfortunately I can't invite you to apply as a new editor for this category, it's most probably too large. You can however try with smaller ones elsewhere first.
