Hi,

Just wanted to know my submission status. I first submitted my site (www.ascleanedontv.com) last year in December 2001. The last time I submitted was over 6 months ago. I've been careful to follow the guidelines, however I'm still not listed. The category I've submitted to is http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Cleaning/ Any idea when I will be listed? Thanks. Truly appreciate the help.

Since your site is simply an affiliate, selling the 'Orange' range of products, it will not be listed.

In response to your comment...

Please tell me how exactly you reached the conclusion that my site is an affiliate site.

I'm suspecting that my site was just given a cursory glance as opposed to a fair review.

For your information please note the following:
1) The manufacturer of the Orange glo products, Orange Glo International, does not run an affiliate program at this time.
2) All the products I carry are housed in a real warehouse with real people I've contracted with to work for me.
3) My business model is simple: I buy wholesale and then I sell at retail.
4) Sharay's (www.sharays.com) sells the same products that I do (plus some cute teddy bears) and they also have the same business model (see #3). They are clearly indexed in the category "Shopping: Home and Garden: Cleaning: Specialty Products"
5) Orange Glo Northwest (www.goglo.com) also sells the same products (no teddy bears) that I do and use the same business model (see #3) and they too are clearly indexed in the category "Regional: North America: United States: Oregon: Localities: E: Eugene: Business and Economy: Shopping"

Something is clearly wrong with this picture. Hey, if my site's not going to get listed because it's shady or I'm some evil s*p*a*m*m*e*r - then Amen. Just at least be fair and accurate. If not, let me know - I can handle it.

At any rate, I do appreciate you responding to my message. At least now I know why my site hasn't been indexed.

Peace!

It doesn't matter how you get your products, or how many people you employ, or how your business is structured. What matters is unique content. Since all of the products you sell can be bought direct from the manufacturer's site, or from hundreds of other sites on the web, you have nothing unique to contribute to the directory. For this reason, your site will not be listed.

You may not be an 'affiliate' in the marketing sense of the word, but we use it to mean 'no-added-value middle man'.

If you see a chip on the shoulders of most of the editors here, don't take it personally. The miet out their punishment equally.
It's a sad day when such a small group dictates what you can and cannot sell, but it is fairly obvious that at least one of your competitors decided to start selling "little bears too" so that they could offer something "unique."

Agrevating - yes. Useful? Perhaps yes as well.
In your shoes, I would stock up on 3M scrubber pads and Handy wipes and start to offer combination packs. This not only provides a unique solution so you can make a better argument to the ODP editors, differing from the Orange manufacturers site, but it also might result in increased sales. Start with a small stock, and if it doesn't sell, the worst is that you have wasted some screen real-estate and learned a little more about your audience.
I should think that offering a combination of products should meet the ODP's unique content properties. If not, then they need to remove nearly all the commercial entries, as very few manufacturers sell directly - any manufacturer of significant size prefers to sell through retail outlets - ie "middlemen" in ODP speak.

That statement is completely false and irresponsible. The ODP doesn't dictates what anyone can or can't do. It only dictates what can or can not be listed in their directory, of which they have every right to do.
