Recently I submitted this site for inclusion in the
http://www.dmoz.org/Recreation/Pets/Dogs/Breeds/Sporting-Gundog_Group/Labrador_Retriever/Breeders/
category and have since been informed that the editor for the category has resigned.

Can someone please provide me with the status of this request?

Since this category has no editor, should I assume that it will remain "in the queue" forever, or will it eventually be handled by a higher-level editor?

No category is abandoned. There are higher level editors, and there are editors that can edit anywhere. During the last months, a handfull of editors have worked on this category. We can't promise when your submission will be processed though.

When I first posted my query regarding the status of my site submission (about 7 weeks ago) I was told that I was "in the queue" with about 50 other sites and have since seen little/no change in sites listed in the category.

Will somebody please tell me what is up with my inclusion into http://www.dmoz.org/Recreation/Pets/Dogs/Breeds/Sporting-Gundog_Group/Labrador_Retriever/Breeders/ ??

Sorry to say, but the status didn't change much. About the same amount of sites is waiting for review, yours is among them.

attention, I would like to know if someone will please

The short answer is "no". Your site is still waiting there with roughly the same number of sites and will be reviewed eventually.
