I tried to submit this site a long time ago, and it never showed up, so a little over 60 days ago I re-submitted. I understand that it can take some time. This is probably especially true for this site since the categories that are most relevant need editors. But it would be nice to have some kind of confirmation that it hasn't been forgotten. I would appreciate it if you could tell me as much as possible about where I am in the que.

Have you given any thought to providing an automated way for submitters to look up their submission status? It would make the waiting easier.

There is no indication that the site has been picked up by an editor; this means that a) you've submitted under a different URL or b) no-one has reviewed it yet.

Could you please tell us which category you submitted it to?

Thanks for the reply! I think the category was Top: Business: Training and Schools: Business Development. The date of submission was May 5th.

It would help us extremely if you actually put a link to the category you submitted to instead of

Top: Business: Training and Schools: Business Development

frankly, the idea of drilling down the category tree is not great motivation to check the status. The easier you make it for us the faster we can reply.

Hmm, the editing in this category in recent times is mostly a lot of deletion of spam and inappropriate submissions and moving stuff to other categories that was submitted in the wrong place. Really is a murky backwater. No wonder editors try to avoid it. Still in the queue with a lot of other sites.

There are currently around 430 sites awaiting review in that category - down from around 550 twenty minutes ago (I just went and deleted all the 'spam' and similar sites from the queue).

Sites are _not_ reviewed in any particular order: yours could be the next site to be reviewed or the final site. That part of the directory does appear to be greatly backlogged so it could still be a few months before your site is reviewed - unless you know of someone that might want to be a volunteer editor and work their way up to handling a category like that...

I was really hoping to get some kind of feel for whether a lot of progress has been made and I should wait it out, or give up on this category in favor of one with an editor... If in 3 months I've gone from 400 to less than 100, then there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If there are still 300 ahead of me then the prospects of getting listed in this category any time soon may be dim.

The chances of getting listed in that category in the next few weeks in probably very remote at the moment, but there is always a chance a random editor would feel like tackling the backlog tonight and you could be listed tomorrow... _All_ categories are maintained by editors (there are no true 'editor-less' categories), but since we are just flesh-and-blood humans there are only some many categories and sites we can look at and review during a day (especially since we are volunteers and do it all out of the goodness of our hearts <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" /> )

It _may_ be an idea to submit your site to another category - but please try and ensure that your site is appropriate for the category - submitting to a category 'just because it has a listed editor', as this will just lessen the chance of your being listed in the future (all 'activities' against a site are logged and if an editor sees quite a few 'Deleted: Inappropriate category' style remarks, then they will be more reluctant to spend the time needed to review the site).
