Hi - the ODP is going through some teething troubles at the moment so I can't update you on your progress. Hopefully everything will be back to normal soon.

Submitting to the next level up will not get you listed faster. The editor will need to move it to the proper category. And, if you state that you already submitted to the other category, they could just delete the inappropriate submission knowing it is already waiting in unreviewed in the proper cat.

Many of the web design categories are notorious for having lots of spam submitted. You'll need to be patient.

What is frustrating is that I was trying to follow
to the letter a set of guidelines for submitting
to Dmoz in the ODP forum at
www.searchengineforums.com
about waiting a certain period, submitting to
the next level up etc

I tried to find the set you are referring to at SEF but after a while looking around there I wasn't able to pick up the (thread?) where it is said to submit *the site* next level up.

OTOH, I perfectly remember a few threads in other Forums (mainly WMW, but there were some at SEF too, IIRC) where it was suggested to *send feedback* to editors, and if there was no editor in the category your site was submitted to, or the editor didn't reply, move to the editor one level up. Move sending feedback, that is, not submitting the site /images/icons/smile.gif

This was a while ago, when this Forum didn't exist. Not saying that sending feedback to editors is frowned upon now that submitters have this Forum to contact us, just that in the Site Submission section here sure you will get better and faster answers. But *submitting the site* next level up, and then next level up again after a certain period, has never been - and still isn't - the way to go /images/icons/smile.gif

Your best tactic is to wait. We can't currently check for its progress because the editor side of dmoz is down at the moment, but we'll get back to you.

site with useful tips and advice for
ClickBank users.

It is equivalent to my other site
www.ad-tracking.com
- an information site about
ad trackers which was accepted by
both Dmoz and Yahoo.

Oh, my, I went to the "free books for merchants" under the "Merchant Guide" link and discovered it downloads the books from http://supertips.com/. That made me curious so I did a search for Supertips in dmoz and found 13 one page listings for Supertips. All of which are nothing more than a doorway page to other URLs.

I wonder what else one might find should they choose to look more thoroughly at this site?
 

Yes - I am the owner of all 3 sites.
It says so quite clearly on the 'about'
page of every site.

They are all separate sites, the only reason
for hosting the ebooks at supertips was that
my former clickbankguide.com host did not
allow downloads.

clickbankguide.com and ad-tracking.com are
certainly acceptable information sites.

On supertips I have a number of one page
affiliate products which were submitted
years ago before more stringent rules
on affiliate sites were added.

Not in my opinion, but not to worry, my opinion isn't worth much here. But I do just love to offer it on this forum anyway.

The merchant guide leads the user to clickbank's info through the supertips site, same with opening an account, operating a merchant account, and software tools. As for the more tips for merchants, well, I'm sure that info is offered on the clickbank site.

Give me a break, everything leads the user to the supertips site in one form or another, which takes them to an affiliate of one kind or another. This site has no original content of it's own and smacks of an affiliate farm. It's a perfect example of a site built to support its affiliate links.

Well I'll be dipped in ---- ain't that a surprise.

The only person who's opinion counts in regards to the ODP is the editor who reviews your site(s). If everyone agreed there'd be no point in having an opinion, would there. :/images/dmoz/purplegrin.gif

The answer to which appears to be that the reviewing editor rejected the submission due to the site not having enough original content.
