I submitted this site nearly a year ago, but I now can't remember which category it was submitted to. I thought I'd kept it to a general business one, as many of the related categories were too specific. I submitted another site at the same time, which has recently appeared. Can I assume that the submission of this site has not been acknowledged and I should submit it again?

You can assume what you want!
However it is probably waiting review where you submitted it - especially if you submitted to an overly general category. You can't request a status check unless you know the category you submitted it to.

I'd recommend you resubmit after selecting a specific category that best fits your business model,

Please remember you are not entitled to a status check until 1 month after your most recent submission. So once you have submitted, you will have to wait a month to request a check here. Remember to make a note of where you submitted this time.

Thanks for your reply, Andy. To be fair, I have had to make an assumption because, as you state, I can't request a status check unless I know the category, so I can't possibly find out for sure! I was reluctant to resubmit as the notes also advise against it. I waited patiently for a year, and I expect that in the meantime the categories available have developed and expanded and I now can't find my original thread.

Thank you for your help - I will reselect a category and make a note of it.
