I would like to check the status of http://www.funtimeinflatables.com
I submitted to the category http://dmoz.org/Business/Consumer_Goods_and_Services/Boating/Boats/Inflatables/

I did use an automated program to submit and to check the status. That was before I read the guidelines. I have since removed that program and now do things manually. Can anyone tell me if I am banned or being penalized? I'm so sorry I used that program and had no idea and will never use it again. Please, please help. :( <kicking self in the behind>

Thank you.

Wait at least a month after you last submitted your site to start a thread here asking about its status.
Last suggest date: 27/Mar/2004

Hello,

This site is awaiting review in the category you mention. You do not need to suggest it again.

Thanks.

The time frame for submission status has been changed to six months, you are eligible to ask again on November 1 :)

It appears to be waiting in at least Shopping/General_Merchandise/Novelties and Shopping/Vehicles/Watercraft/Parts_and_Accessories. DO NOT RESUBMIT.

Do not resubmit???

Hello,
Geez, it's been what? a year that I've been inquiring and all you can say is that it's waiting? I kind of figured that, but still, the questions is... how many more months, years, decades will it be before it actually is visible in your directory??? I understand you're busy, but really... how hard is it to look at a site (and mine is very established) and then add it?

<shaking head> this is plain silly.....

Well, take care and I really hope my site gets listed while I'm still alive, lmao

Thanks anyway,
I'll check back in a few more months only to be told it's still waiting....

Though many sites once looked at, may not take much time to be reviewed, it often takes some time before an editor gets around to reviewing them.

However, it appears that in your case, it certainly has taken an extensive amount of time. Many different editors have looked at it at one time or another, and a lot of time has been spent on it. The problem is that you have submiited not only the main URL, but individual pages within the site. [This is not something that makes us smile with joy] You have also submitted it to a number of different categories. All these marketing efforts on your part [that we call spamming] lead to confusion and delays as the multiple submissions are deleted sorted and refiled.

Given a choice between dealing with a simple single suggestion and a mish mash - an editor can make his own decision as to where to spend his energy.

List me in the right category, please

Hello,
I just noticed that the category you mentioned is not the category I would like to be listed in. We mainly sell boats, not parts and accessories. The category I submitted to was: Business/Consumer_Goods_and_Services/Boating/Boats/Inflatables
That is, if I ever get listed. Why would someone change the category? Are the editors biased to certain categories? Like they have some kind of interest in it and therefore only list certain sites? And then move others to ummmm less important categories?
<sigh> Again I ask, am I ever going to get listed?

Still waiting.....

No, you submitted to numerous different categories - not just that one.

As I said, most of your submissions have been deleted, not because all these differnet editors had a conspiracy against you, but because you ignored the submission guidelines. If and when the site is reviewed an editor will decide the most appopriate category.

Since that process may take any where from a few days to a few years, and in the end there is no guarantee your site will be accepted, I suggest you concentrate on other ways of marketing your product.

LOL.... you really don't think this is the only way I'm marketing my site, right? geez.... that would be insane. No, my site ranks high under the important search queries in Google, MSN and Yahoo. I just thought it would be nice to get listed in this directory, too.

btw, I never said a conspiracy... I simply asked if some editors were biased... big difference.

I simply asked if some editors were biased
Yes they are biased but not in the way you're thinking. Biased in favour of submitters who follow the submission guidelines as regards submitting to a single best-fit category, and they are biased in favour of submitters who choose the best fit objectively and not because it fits their marketing plans. Most of all they are biased in favour of sites that contain substantial quantities of unique high quality content. So if you had picked a single category into which you site fitted like a glove, worded your title and description as per our guidelines, and provided us with the ultimate in sites on your topic an editor would be biased in your favour. Rankings with search engines aren't a reliable source of information on uniqueness and substantiveness of content, more a statement on SEO techniques used. Nevertheless they are probably more important commercially than a DMOZ listing so I wouldn't worry too much about the latter. Best of luck with the business anyway.
