It's not a shopping site (i.e. you're not selling the product online) so it won't get listed in the category you submitted to. Having said that, I'm not sure where it can be listed. Perhaps someone else has an idea.

That category seems to be about the pools and spas themselves rather than the maintenance of the water balance. The 2 categories I mentioned have sites similar to mine whereas the last category does not.
Thanks

That was why I didn't mention that category. Since it's only sold in Turkey right now, it could be in Regional Turkey. Without any address information on the site at all or any indication of the area that you distribute the product, though, it makes it difficult to place the site in Regional. I'd recommend that you add an address to the contact page and mention the fact that it is currently only sold in Turkey on the "how to order" page.

The product is also sold in the USA, Australia, South Africa and Germany. Should I then include contacts for each of these regions and submit to their local categories?

I do not feel that the site needs 5 listings, only one relevant one. Submitting an English site to Regional/Turkey doesn't seem logical. I am working on the Turkish version of the site which would be appropriate for the regional category.

I took another look at the sites in all the categories mentioned and found my site to be quite similar thematically and content-wise to sites in http://dmoz.org/Home/Consumer_Information/Swimming_Pools_and_Spas/ .Similar sites include:
http://www.poolmanual.com/
http://www.poolsolutions.com/
http://www.caromal.co.uk/Resource%20Index%20Page.HTM

Similarities to sites in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Swimming_Pools_and_Spas/Chemicals/ include:
http://www.algaebar.com/
http://www.earthsciencelabs.com/
http://www.nature2.com/
http://hydro-safellc.com/

Thanks for your interest and efficient help

My mistake, though it's hardly surprising I would think that when you said "We have not begun online sales yet, but are selling the product in Turkey." Still, other than for a Shopping listing, where you sell the product really doesn't matter -- if you were going to get a Regional listing, it would be in the place that you are physically located. But, since you don't put that information on your site, Regional is out.

Submitting an English site to Regional/Turkey doesn't seem logical. I am working on the Turkish version of the site which would be appropriate for the regional category.
Regional/Middle_East/Turkey is for English-language sites with a Turkey focus. Turkish-language sites get listed somewhere in http://dmoz.org/World/Türkçe only, nowhere else in the directory.

You will not get listed in Shopping since you do not offer remote shopping of any kind so forget about those categories. You do offer consumer information but the site's purpose is primarily to give information about a specific product (i.e. a business) therefore Home/Consumer_Information is not really the place for you. I'd go ahead and submit to http://dmoz.org/Business/Consumer_Goods_and_Services/Home_and_Garden/Lawn_and_Garden/Pools_and_Spas/ since I think that's the closest thing to the right place for it.

Thanks. I've resubmitted.
There was a warning, however, that the category was for manufacturers and it suggested the "shopping" category. I hope this does not create any problems down the line.

Don't worry about that. There are other non-pool-manufacturer sites there.

When searching for my site, I noticed that the database hasn't been updated for some time. Has my application been processed?
Thanks once again

There seems to be a problem with the message board - my previous post did not appear according to the date.

I don't see your submission there, nor do I see any evidence that it was moved or deleted from that category. Did you receive any error messages when you submitted? An earlier submission (to a Shopping cat) was caught by our spam filter, and eventually sent to the correct cat. It is possible that the same thing happened this time, and your resubmission is waiting to be sorted to the correct category. It is also possible, however, given recent server troubles, that your submission never made it through, which is why I asked if you received any messages. If you got an error message about being caught by the spam filter, don't worry. If you got a 500 error, or didn't get any message at all, I'd suggest resubmitting.

Updates happen when a category is changed in any way -- they don't necessarily mean that all, or even any, of the unreviewed sites were processed. For example, non-working links may be updated, or the category charter may be modified. The update you saw was probably just our robot finding a non-working link. I just found a working version of that link and changed it, so you'll see another update, but I didn't review any submissions.

Thanks Lachenm
When I resubmitted, I didn't get any error messages. The submission was accepted and so I am a little reticent to resubmit. My initial submission in February was "overwritten" when I had to resubmit last month. By starting from the beginning again, it could take a few more months for my site to be processed.
What do you suggest?

But here's the rub - right now there is no submission for this URL awaiting review, so you aren't in the "queue" at *all*. So submitting your site won't lessen your chances of being listed, it'll increase them from the zero they are at right now.

Please resubmit.

I have resubmitted again. I got the following message:

Sorry, we could not determine your IP address for this submission. This may be because your browser or ISP has cached the previous page.
There is no need to resubmit; your site is in a holding area.

Would it be possible to verify that my site details have actually been received this time?

Thanks once again

The message you received verified that your site has in fact been submitted. As it says, there is no need to resubmit.

What happened is that your submission got caught by the spam filters, which is what I suspected, since your earlier submission to a Shopping/ category also got caught. There's no need for concern, since we know that a lot of non-spam submissions get caught by the filters. Your site will be sorted to the correct category from the holding area.
