Re: http://www.koded.com

I noticed in our log that a dmoz editor had paid our site a visit. Does this mean we wont get in or does in mean the editor came to discover whether our site was actually there?

Your submissions haven't been rejected. No decision has been taken yet. Perhaps it was just me - I had a short glance at your site before answering your question.

Listed, but the description is wrong

I just noticed today that our site 'koded.com' is listed in the regional section of dmoz. WoooHoooooo !!

http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/West_Midlands/Wolverhampton/Business_and_Economy/Internet/

But..., the description is slightly wrong.

Currently it says,

Online promotion and positioning solutions for UK and web sites. Includes company profile and contacts.

What is should say is..,

Online promotion and positioning solutions for UK web sites. Includes company profile and contacts.

The word 'and' should not be in between 'UK' and 'web sites'

A simple mistake to make, but i would appreciate if the grammar was correct. Kind regards,

We can't give any guesses on how long it takes. All work is done by volunteers, so it is not predictable.

Re: koded.com - changed to koded.co.uk

understood,

i thought maybe you would have a list of urls, and could then determine how close it is to the front of the list as apposed to how close it was 6 months ago.

sorry, i'm just being cheeky 'cos i know how important dmoz is in the eyes of the search engines, and getting a site listed is like the holy grail.

I might offend a few people here (hopefully not) but have dmoz ever thought about charging for submissions so that sites are guranteed to get reviewed iniside a few months?

just a thought

Re: koded.com - changed to koded.co.uk

1) If DMOZ would charge for submissions, most of the >5000 active editors would asap stop editing, it recently was considered as one of the beast features of the ODP in an internal poll.

2) Submissions are meant only as a help to the editors. Editors build fine categories. They may or may not use submitted URLs to do so.

3) WOf course sites are displayed as a list. What do you want me to sort by: URL? Subission date? Title? Something else? Or in other words: No, there is no fixed queue.

Actually we can give *guesses* as to how long it will take to be listed - I'm guessing seventeen weeks, three days, five hours and twenty two minutes. Let me know whether I was the closest!

On a serious note, the point is that if an editor decides to pass by that category tomorrow then it might be listed then, if no-one decides to pass by for six months then it'll take longer than six months. No way to tell...

Re: koded.com - changed to koded.co.uk

1. If DMOZ charged for listings they'd be Yahoo and no one is beating down Yahoo's doors to get listed.

2. They'd lose most of their volunteer editors, and go out of business shortly thereafter. I'd drop by to urinate on the remains.

3. It's not what we're about. We are the good guys, trying to leave the planet a little better than we found it. Pillage, banditry, misdirection, mispelling, intentional misuse of English and other practices are left to our more mercantile brothers, among whom are the SEOs.

In a sweep through the Search Engine Submitting and Positioning category, those sites which did not make it impossible or objectionable to list; got listed.

Just so it is crystal clear: I was in the neighbourhood, broom and dustmop in hand. Coincidence.
