http://www.masteringadwords.com

Hey everybody,

I submitted my site http://www.masteringadwords.com to the directory
http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Searching/Search_Engines/Google/

This was around 3 to 4 weeks back. I use a website stats software that gives me the list of referrer pages. Last week, I noticed that one of the visitor has been referred by DMOZ.org
Am I right in assuming that the visitor to my site is the editor of the category I submitted to?

Now it has almost been one week since I got the mystery visit from DMOZ but my website has still not been listed in the directory. Do I need to assume that the editor rejected my listing?

Can somebody let me know the status of my submission?

Really Big Thanks!

Looks like it was a visit from an editor. The site was deleted for having insufficient content. Having a quick look at the site, I must say that I agree with the editor in question.

Re: http://www.masteringadwords.com/

It is currently sitting in unreviewed in: http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Promotion/ . There was too little content for it to remain in the submitted category. I can only see the notes not the queue so I have no idea how many other sites are waiting along with yours. This is a spam laden area of the directory, so I expect the number to be large. Someone will eventually review it in the new category, no listing is guaranteed.

If you see no listing in a few months time, then enquire back here. In the meantime don't resubmit, as this takes you to the back of the queue each time; and after a few submisions the whole lot gets deleted as spam/mass submission. As pointed out, you need to have more informational content on your site.

No, you can't necessarily assume that, this time it is true: apparently and plausibly enough, for insufficient content.

Thanks everybody!

By "insufficient content", do you mean my site has insufficient content to be listed in Google directory? Does that mean there is a possibility of it being listed in some other directory?

Do you think one of these two make a better category to submit to? My website deals with pay per click search engines in general and google adwords in particular

http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Searching/Search_Engines/Specialized/Pay-Per-Click/

OR

One of those "Internet Advertising" categories

Any other directory suggestions?

We don't work for the Google directory, we work for the Open Directory Project. I have no idea how you might get listed elsewhere.

There's not a lot of point submitting your site to any other http://dmoz.org/ category. Unless you radically alter the amount of content, it still won't get listed.

ugh! Do you recommend that I re-sumit it to Pay Per Click directory? Or do I wait and watch?

Thanks! Actually, WebMasterWorld fellows sent me here <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

WMW did well to send you here for specific questions about specific sites on the ODP: you can get unique access to ODP editors here.

But for questions about other directories, or other ways of promoting websites, the other forums do better than resource-zone. (Which isn't hard -- resource-zone specializes in what its members can do well: the ODP.)

One last question!
One of the WMW post was that DMOZ accepts listings in two categories - a regional category and a main category.

Is that true?

Yes, this is true for the most part. There are some exceptions. For example, some sites have no "local" presence so they would not get a Regional listing. My personal site, about the hobby of collecting compact discs, falls in this category. Your site may belong in a category in or around http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/India/Business_and_Economy/Internet/ , for instance (but I tend to stay out of Regional, and that's just a personal opinion) -- Foe

Thanks. My company is physically present in India and is a registered entity. So I think I will give it a shot.

All you fellows are really helpful. I was pleasantly surpised by the really quick responses!

Cheers!
