I've been trying for what seems to be 6 months now to get my site into the "Computers/Internet/Cyberspace/Online_Communities/". The editor of that category seems to be "dead" and hasn't responded to any emails I've sent. I have tried to contact dmoz.org itself through the feedback forms, but I never got any response from that either. My luck changed today when one of the editors messaged me on ICQ to tell me about this site.

Will someone please help me put my site inside that category (which it is very appropriate for)?

My site is:
"Online Node" - http://www.onlinenode.com

Thank you for any help you can provide :)

Re: Want to submit to "Online_Communities" category

Not 6 months, only about 4... And it was then deleted from the unreviewed queue as 'under construction'. It's a common mistake to submit sites too early. If it's demonstrably active now, please submit again, with a comment specifying it now has enough content to be listed :smirk:

Re: Want to submit to "Online_Communities" category

I have resubmitted again recently, can you check to see whether the resubmit is there? If no traces of the submission are in the "online communities" section, then I'll resubmit ASAP. I don't want to submit again if it's there because I don't want to violate any rules :)

Couldn't see it in the queue. When you resubmit, please be patient, there are nearly 200 sites waiting to be reviewed in that queue

Yes, but due to the size of the unreviewed pool of suggested URLs, I would wait a minimum of 90 days.

Please bookmark and reuse this thread. A moderator will move it to the correct forum, and change the title, at that time.

Yes of course, but please wait at least one month before enquiring. Your submission has been received, and I'll now move this thread to the 'Submission Status' forum :)

Re: Want to submit to "Online_Communities" category

It's been about a month, and I've eagerly waited to find out what the status of my submission is. I submitted my site to /Computers/Internet/Cyberspace/Online_Communities/ a while ago.

Just for the editor's sake, let me explain what the site is. The site is a multicultural online community which I created (all with my own scripting, no 3rd party software was used). This puts the site at an advantage because a lot of the sites I saw in that category use software which is readily available on the net; it also means I can add and remove features the community might want. I created the site to compete with websites that cater only to certain cultures, which is a shame because nobody has yet to create one for my particular culture. I'm Canadian so I believe very much in multiculturalism, which is why I created this website.

The site itself provides users with several features. Users are allowed to create their own profiles which other members can search through and save friends. Members get personal webpages, guestbooks, journals, games to play, chatrooms to chat in, forums to discuss in, articles to read (nodes), daily horoscopes (provided by a horoscope website), private messaging (like internal email), polls to vote on, a "member of the week" feature, karma (to vote for other users), and several other features.

The site is always under development because users tend to submit feature requests a lot; don’t mistake this for the site not being ready for the online world. People who do not want to register, can log in as a guest (there is a button on the main page), and browse around the site. The guest feature is restricted, therefore a guest won’t be able to post in the forums, or edit a webpage like regular members can.

Status of www.onlinenode.com

The suggestion still awaits review in the category to which it was submitted. As spectregunner pointed out above, its a rather backlogged area so waiting several months between requests would not be a bad idea at all.

And next time, please skip the advertising.

Re: Status of www.onlinenode.com

It wasn't advertising, but rather just to show that the site belonged in that category. Plus, the last time I submitted the site, it was taken down because it looked underdeveloped, so I just wanted to show that the site was in fact fully developed and ready.

I'll wait longer, thank you.
