Hi there, I have been referred by the extremely helpful people at www.searchengineworld.com regarding the status of my site.

I have been submitting it for several months now, and it is still not indexed. Through work I have submitted another site(not related or similar) to a different category which was indexed in 2 months.

My site has been submitted probably 6 months ago then at least once a month. I can only apologise for submitting again and again as I did not know that this could be classed as 'spam' and automatically ignored. From a normal search engine point of view this seems to be the only way to get indexed sometime.

I have tried submitting to http://dmoz.org/Computers/Security/ and also the smaller subcategories.

Here is the post I did to searchengineworld
http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum17/988.htm?highlight=cant+dmoz

Here was the first suggestion:
"It may help sending an email reminder to the editor of that category and then waiting for a week. If still no joy you could email the editor of the category directly above (it worked for me)."

As you can see I was wary of this but tried anyway mailing of all of the editors, didnt even get one reply.

Then came another response:
"Hi,
If it's the site in your profile, it hasn't been reviewed yet. The Computers: Security category has more than a thousand unreviewed in the main and subcats, so it will be awhile.

Since you're interested in the field, you might like to apply to edit. We can let you know which subcats are small enough for a new editor. "

So I thought I wouldnt mind looking at sites, spent a long time preparing a submission for a subcat and the person didnt have the decency to even give a decline reason(it cant be that hard to type an extra line of stuff)

So now there are 1000 sites + waiting to be looked at in this category? yet the editors are uncontactable and it doesnt seem to be getting any better.

I really dont know what else to try and would really like a placement in dmoz mainly due to past experience. My other(unrelated) sites which have listings have benefitted a great deal.

Any help on this most appreciated

My site is www.security-forums.com

Well the good news is that there are now only 700 sites waiting for review in that category, and yours is still there.

It's up to individual editors to decide if they wish to respond to a submitter. With that amount of email that some editors get on high traffic categories, it's next to impossible for them to reply to status inquiries.

I don't edit near your category, but let me also invite you to reapply to join the editing ranks. Any editing commitment you can make helps searchers and other submitters. Plus, you will have a reason to surf other people's interesting sites.

Have you read http://www.resource-zone.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=bemome&Number=718&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=7&fpart= ? That thread might be encouraging. You can probably wander on this board, too, and figure out how to get accepted.

By the way, one possibility for the lack of reply to your e-mail is that the people you are e-mailing are volunteers. They could be on vacation, busy with their paying jobs, or maybe they have quit without telling anyone. Most volunteers do not log on five days a week and do all the "proper" things you would do in at real job.

Good luck.

Thanks again for replies

Another 3 weeks and still no luck

First submission was april the 18th followed by roughly one a month (didnt know at this time about waiting times etc)

Just over 4 months anyone have a real rough idea of how long extra I need to wait

Thanks in advance

As I said in another thread here:

Yesterday, I listed a site that had been submitted 8 hours previously and in another category I listed one that had been lurking for about 8 months. These things happen. Do not resubmit, this takes you to the back of the queue. Do not submit to multiple categories; it leads to deletion of all submissions, like the one that submitted 21 times I came across while editing yesterday.

The site must have been submitted several times at first, possibly every few weeks and I realise now this is a mistake.

Looking back at my previous successful submissions they have always been to smaller categories hence I can imagine they would have got looked at earlier.

Im 99% sure I havent submitted to multiple categories:

http://dmoz.org/Computers/Security/

Seems to be the most relevant, the site is a discussion forum / portal, another which comes close is:

http://dmoz.org/Computers/Hacking/WWWBoards/

But we dont really cover hacking as such, more preventing of hacking <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

I have spoken to all the other moderators of the board and told them NOT to resubmit as at first we shared search engine/directory work out between us.

/Sits back patiently

Thanks
