I submitted my site over a half year ago to both the
Shopping:Clothing:Used and Secondhand
(http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Clothing/Used_and_Secondhand/)
and the
Shopping:Clothing:Vintage
(http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Antiques_and_Collectibles/Clothing/)
categories.
I note that these categories have a significant number of listings which appear in both.
I have never received a response in either category, yet I see that both are sometimes updated with new sites added.
Was my site rejected for both categories? Is there that great a backlog that the editors simply still have not gotten around to reviewing my site? Is my site improper for both categories (even though we sell the same type of merchandise as many of the other sites in both)? I would appreciate knowing what has happened.
I am resubmitting my site to both categories.

Both of your submissions are in the queues for those categories, but both of them show as having been submitted yesterday. Repeat submissions overwrite old versions, so if an editor is working through the queue in date order, your site now appears at the bottom of both lists.

The question of why we have two seperate categories with very similar content is now on my list of 'things to investigate and cure'. There might be a subtle distinction that I am currently unaware of, but since one of the categories has no description, I can't tell.

Thank you.
I probably shouldn't have resubmitted the site, but I didn't read the threads telling me why that was not a good idea until it was too late. <img src="/images/icons/blush.gif" alt="" />
As to why there are two separate categories, I do believe there is a meaningful distinction - although the fact that one subcategory has two wholly separate names causes even more confusion.
Shopping/Clothing/Used_and_Secondhand would encompass all sites focused on selling non-new clothing.
Shopping/Clothing/Vintage would encompass all sites specifically focused on selling vintage clothing, which is (according to current fashion magazines) 1980s and before. Vintage would really be a subset or subcategory of Used_and_Secondhand.
However, the current link to Shopping/Clothing/Vintage is the same link as to Shopping/Antiques_and_Collectibles/Clothing, which should have a markedly different focus. Clearly, sites that focus on Edwardian or Victorian era clothing sell antiques; but there is no clear definition for the post-World War II clothing of the 1950s and 1960s - and I doubt anyone will wish to call the mid-1980s fashions (think Joan Collins and Linda Evans on Dynasty) antiques. Vintage fashion aficionados don't generally look by the age of the clothes, but by the designer, the type of clothes, or the material. Further complicating the idea of "collectibles" here is that most buyers are looking for something functional rather than a display piece - they buy to wear.
It might make more sense to make Antiques_and_Collectibles a separate link from what's now Vintage, and to have a fairly tight definition for Antiques_and_Collectibles - e.g., to limit it to sites that primarily sell clothing (and accessories) which is not purchased to be regularly worn, but instead to be display pieces.
If you or anyone else who may be involved in possible category restructuring in this area want more details as to how clothing goes with the ODP terms, I'll be happy to discuss it. My email is joan@vintagedesignerclothing.com.
If it wouldn't be much trouble, I'd like to know approximately how many sites are showing in the queue ahead of me in the 2 subcategories I've submitted to - I saw on another thread that there are large queues in all the Shopping/Clothing subcategories, but that wasn't terribly informative.
Thanks.

Although I don't edit anywhere close to this area of discussion, I'd just like to say thanks for taking the time to study the situation and give your thoughts about the category structure. With an ever growing directory there are bound to be areas where categories duplicate effort, overlap, or have separate (but non-obvious) intent. A great deal of internal discussion and work goes into category structuring, and reorganisation; far more than may appear on the outside.

Re: http://www.vintagedesignerclothing.com/

I noticed that both subcategories had been updated earlier this week. Could I please have a status check on my site in both (including general queue size)?
Thanks.

Could I please have a status check on the size of the queues in both subcategories and roughly where my submission falls within the queues?

Thanks.

You are only waiting in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Clothing/Used_and_Secondhand now and the queue there is under 200 sites. Any indication we could give you of where you site falls in that queue would be meaningless since editors aren't required to review the sites in any particular order.
