Status of http://www.xarcmastering.com

Dear Open Directory Editorial,

We wanted to check the status of the submissions of http://www.xarcmastering.com for the category http://dmoz.org/Business/Arts_and_Entertainment/Tools_and_Equipment/Audio/Services/Recording/

Our site was first posted at the start of December 2003 but has never been listed till now. Because we didn´t know, and just have heard of this forum afterwards, we resubmitted our site about 30 minutes ago because we felt it must have got lost by the DMOZ Editorial after 5 months.
Can you please let us know the current status and possible speedup the process, so we don´t have to wait another 5 months?

Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards,
Lorenz Vauck

Yup, you did resubmit and knocked yourself to the very end of the list for editors that sort the unreviewed by submission date :(

With that said, do not resubmit. Your submission is awaiting editorial review.

Thanks for taking the time to investigate.
I understand. And it did take over 5 months to not even get reviewed by someone in a very uncompetetive area? Does this mean it will take another 5 months or more? I am just wondering because when checking the status of other threads in this forum, they seem to get added within a month in even very high competetive sections.

Would you have an estimation of the time it takes to add? I mean we are running an original business here with nearly 0 competition and if you look for us at http://www.google.com/search?q="xarc+mastering"&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=de&meta= you can see we have over 4000 sites and highly rated Audio Magazines speaking about us. I wonder why your editors haven´t picked up on us yet.

Thanks again

There is absolutely no way to tell. From my experience let me put it this way. By resubmitting you put yourself right back where you were 5 months ago. Please remember that dmoz.org categories are edited by volunteers that naturally have an interest in the areas that they edit in, or they would not be volunteering. If the category you have submitted to is not getting updated then it is only logical to assume that there is not very much volunteer interest in that area. Ergo, logic dictates that if that is the case then it will probably take longer.

Thanks for replying again so fast.
I highly respect the nature of the DMOZ and it´s editorial and that noone has the right to get added of course! But i think especially in the technology area, where ideas and business are growing so fast, it can´t be the truth that a "Quality Directory" (what the DMOZ is intended to be, right?) has submission times of 5+ months. 5 months in this industry mean a whole lot and a directory lagging so much back is not informative or helpful for anyone anymore, because we are at another point in technology already, when submissions actually get added.

This is just my opinion and should not offend anyone who is contributing his time for free, towards the DMOZ.

Having that said, i am going to prepare for another 5-? months waiting time, it is almost a joke, sorry.

Its a volunteer directory. What can I say? I tried to lay it out for you as simply and as realistically as I could. No one can tell us where to edit - how much to edit - or whatever. It is our time to give as much as we want and where we want. Please do not blame us for the lack of interest by people in your field for not taking it upon themselves to be editors. That is not our fault.... Please do not blame us for it. Atari Jaguar fans get there sites listed quickly. Houston area businesses are on a fast track. I got my areas covered. What about you?

I didn´t blame anyone, i said that. Instead i showed you a google link were you can clearly see that we have about 4100 sites talking about us and interviews with us in major magazines and a client base reaching into over 25 countries arleady that include major musicians. Be sure that we did our homework, now it´s the editorials turn to do theirs.

We are doing our "job" -- you can trust me on that. The unpaid, volunteer ODP editorial community adds about 4,000 sites a day to the directory. We do it because we want to give something back, not to please webmasters. Just because yours is not one of them is no reason to suggest that we are not doing our "job" as you like to call it.

But, you really don't have to worry about having to wait for 5 months for a site review -- you need to understand that it could be more than two years before we get around to your site. It could also be tomorrow. That's how the directory works.

The good news is that if it does two years for us to get to your site, we will have added about 2.9 million other sites, which means that we will probably have 2.9 million happy webmaster who will be absolutely certain that we have done our "job."

I merged the new thread you started with the old one, please bookmark it for further use. :)

Unfortunately since you last posted the guideline for submission status checks have been changed. You are next eligible 10-8-04.

Hi kokopeli,

Thanks for the merge, I forgot about it :( Very sad to hear another check won´t be possible until this late date. Regarding that since the time I did the last check 2 months already passed and I didn´t know of the new guideline, could you make an exception this time?

Thanks,
Lorenz Vauck

Hello,

I hope you had a great christmas. Now that another 5 months have passed and one year passed since the first submission I still can´t find my site in your database. Can you please verify the current status?

Thanks.

Thanks for checking, this seems right. Can you see at which position the site is currently? Just wondering after 1 year...

Thank you.
