I have been waiting 12 months to see my site listed

site status

Hi

I really would like to know what I'm doing wrong, I have submitted my site www.kit2fit.com several times now to dmoz under recreation/travel/shopping given a clear precise statement about what we sell and still it's not listed. I have waited well over a month each time before re-submitting, so can someone tell what's not right? I re-submitted the site yesterday.

Please read our forum guidelines.
We need a clickable link for the category.
And our guidelines also tell you to wait alteast 1 month after you made the last suggestion before asking for a status.

BTW nowhere does it say you should resuggest your site more than once. Until you know the status (1 month from now as again) do not resubmit.

I have read the guidelines a number of times, I never receive an e-mail telling me why the site has not been listed even though I am always asked for an e-mail address when submitting. I'm not suggesting I have submitted the site every month for the past 12 months, probably about 4 or 5 times at most, so I guess that it's been more than a month in between each submission. I would really appreciate some help here, I do think I have been very patient with this one.

Please be aware that resubmissions replace earlier ones, destroying all evidence of their existence.

I re-submitted the site yesterday

That will overwrite any previous suggestions in a particular category. Currently there is nothing in the category you provided to report back on so you have to wait a month until the latest submission shows up. Duplicates have been removed from other categories so it may be the suggestion made 5 months ago was somewhere else.

The problem with suggesting a site to multiple categories is Editor A sees it waiting in Category X and removes it from Category Y, Editor B sees it waiting in Category Y and removes it from Category X. We try to avoid that happening but it is inevitable that in some cases all copies will get removed by accident.

Hi Guys

I'm not sure that I suggested the correct category with my submission, maybe http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Travel/ would be more suitable. Is this a problem?

(1) your last submittal, and (2) your last post asking about the site early.

I don't know what I've done to annoy you, I haven't and hadn't planned to ask abou the site status until 23 March, I just wanted to point out that perhaps I had appled for the wrong category and wanted to know if it was going to cause a problem.

It takes an enormous amount of work to keep the forums running and the information flowing. It can only be done with the cooperation of the posters, and it is especially frustrating to see what amounts to repeated refusals to cooperate.

Thanks for the apology, and we'll check into your submittal in a month.

A couple of general notes: Shopping categories are often more backlogged than others, and are harder to edit than many others (because of the amount of deceptive doorway spam), so ALL sites tend to wait longer than others.

Also, no site is EVER guaranteed a listing (so say the forum policies). There are a number of hurdles that shopping sites in particular must pass. It is not unusual for even a legitimate business to submit a site that simply doesn't contain the minimal information. I haven't looked at your site, so I don't know if either of these conditions apply, but my point is: don't assume the site will ever be listed. Start, today, promoting your site as if you knew it would never get an ODP listing. You won't regret it, even if it does get listed.

Actually the more I think about it, I think I should elaborate a bit more on me and how I came to this forum. I like may others dived ('dove' if you're American) into this forum a little fed up that after what (to me) seemed a long wait to get a review. Unfortunately, apart from giving myself a very stupid name I then gave what I now see was a very arrogant title to thread.

Since submitting the original thread, I have read a number of threads posted here and feel I now understand both sides. I find threads suggesting editor abuse ridiculous, there are far too many editors, editall and moderators keeping an eye on what you're all doing for that to be a problem. Most questions though are about submission status, these generally seem to ask exactly the same question and get (unsurprisingly) exactly the same answer.

I think as editors you are all doing a fantastic job, I just wish I had read more forum threads before I posted my twaddle!

Any news?

I hesitate to ask this question now, but there it is. I'm quite expecting to wait 6 months now because of what I have read in this forum over the past month and bearing in mind what Hutcheson has said.

By the way, you will have noticed that I have decided to change my membership name, I don't know if baghag can be merged with overall, but I couldn't see an option to change my membership name just the password.

This was a sort of punishement for you continuesly ignoring our guidelines and answers.
As you cleary still don't bother to wait until the moment you were told I hereby am enlarging the waiting period to again one month from now. You may ask for status on April 23. Please do not make any posts before that date.

OK everyone, consider me well and truly 'put down', even if I am the only one who knows for sure my intentions have always been honourable. I understand and will not bother to post again until 23 April 2005 and then I will ask all my questions contemporaneously. That will leave enough time for everyone to calm down and be less truculent (including myself).

You say submission (singular) but actually it has been multiple submissions. A number of duplicates have been rejected and at least one awaits somewhere in the system for review although the editor clearing out the duplicates didn't specify exactly where.

Please don't submit again, you are fortunate that the penalties in the guidelines relating to multiple submissions have not been envoked as yet. You can assume that somewhere, in one of the many categories you submitted to, the site awaits review. Since only you can know the extent to which you submitted, I suggest you scan through them all from time to time and see if it has been listed - maybe do the occasional search if you are not sure of all of the categories. There really is no point in coming back here to ask for an update - unless and until the site is listed we have no way of telling where it is waiting.
