I have a domain name for my website url and can not get it changed, I have made numerous attempts. The old url does still work, but since I am paying for the domain name, I would like to use it. The last try was Sent on 8/21/2004 Here is change expanation:
Category: Sports: Equestrian: Breeds: Arabian: Breeders: North America: United States: Wisconsin

Offers show quality Arabian horses for sale, and stallion services, in Wisconsin. Owners of SWA Ansair, last producing son of *Corsair.

Changed URL to domain name, and changed description, to better fit the website description Old url http://www.northwindarabians.addr.com to new url http://www.northwindarabians.net

Please let me know what to do to get this corrected?

In order for us to check the status we need a clickable link for the category.

And if you want us to change the url you will have to give some prove it is a legal change. How can we know that both sites are yours. Ok, they look exactly the same. But that's no prove. For us both sites are identical and there is no reason to change the url.
You should make your old site redirect in some way to the new one. This can be done through a technical solution (like a 301 redirect) or by a visible solution (like "this site has move to ......")

What type of Proof do you need? I have paid for a domain name to use, so why should I redirect it, when all you have to do is change it to the correct one. If you notice the first one is not a paid for domain name, it is a free one thru the webhosting site which is addr.com. and please explain how to do this- In order for us to check the status we need a clickable link for the category. I would also like the domain changed because search engines rate the url,and my statistics for views are incorrect, if it is redirected. I have changed all of them over to the new one and this is the only one that I am having problems with.

As pvgool already said: We can't check that a new URL is a valid replacement of an existing one and not an attempt to hijack a listing. As a result, as long as the old URL is still valid and not redirecting to the new place, we keep the old address.

So either a redirect or a notice "We moved to xxx" on the old URL is the only way to convince us. Btw: Its much easier to maintain if you redirect all your URLs to a single server.

Please explain. It is the same server?

It is the same server or hosting for both urls. That is why the site comes up exactly the same. The only difference is one uses the freebie, they gave me when it was new, and I didn't have a domain name, the other is the paid url, I bought last year. I do not understand why you are telling me to redirect the url, when it is the same server or host. Please explain. I did not change servers or hosting company, I just bought a domain name. Will this work for proof of ownership to get the url changed on the Northwind Arabians website? To verify who owns the url go to any domain place and enter the url. click on who owns and it tells you who it is registered to. If you notice the free url has the addr.com in the url and the new one, show it as domain server below.
Registrant:
Northwind Arabians

Registered through: Little Dollar Domains
Domain Name: NORTHWINDARABIANS.NET

Domain servers in listed order:
NS.ADDR.COM
NS2.ADDR.COM

nwind, in a situation like this it's helpful to put ourselves in the situation of a ODP user. ODP aims to produce useful categories full of good content. It seems to have been established that both of the sites that are the subject of your proposal have the same content. Therefore either way the user sees the same thing. So to put it frankly, why go through the hassle? It's just more work and more risk.

To accomplish your aim with the least amount of risk then it's best to follow the advice given by pvgool and reiterated by windharp:
You should make your old site redirect in some way to the new one. This can be done through a technical solution (like a 301 redirect) or by a visible solution (like "this site has move to ......")
The technical issues you describe are not really any issue to the user. The user is not really interested in whois records (which can and do contain any old random text) or nameservers. If your hosting arrangements lack the flexibility to implement such apparently simple solutions quoted three times above then it's best to do something about your hosting arrangements. Free hosting, as you no doubt were aware when you went with your particular provider, is a game of swings and roundabouts - but there are plenty of hosts out there if one is not giving you what you need.

It was not FREE hosting!! I paid for the hosting which, included their free URL, that is why the url has their name in it!!! http://www.northwindarabians.ADDR.COM
One thing you have all taught me is, do not submit a website, until you have your domain name. I submitted the free URL, because I was not planning on getting a Domain name. Since then I have changed my mind, and now find out how difficult it is to change. All Domain names are registered to show who owns them! I did not realize there is such a problem of "hijacking". I did not build my website or have any idea on what you are talking about redirecting, but have asked my webmaster to do it. Since I did not think it was such a big deal to change a URL, as owner of the site.

Free hosting, free URL... Nothing's free. Splitting hairs... Just to reiteratem, if I may, that I believe you'll find the solution to your woes at the addr.com end; not this end.

As you say nothing is free, the price for use of their URL was included in my hosting Price, I paid for.

Out of curiousity, have you actually gone to the dmoz.org category and looked at your listing or did you just look at the Google one? Your URL was changed in August by the resident editor so this whole conversation is moot.

Thank You, to the editor, who changed it.

Thank You, for pointing out that it has been changed and thank you, to the editor who changed it. I had submitted it several times to get it changed, and it never did. Sorry for the inconvience. Thank you again, for those who where nice and helped me. Not all of us are computer wizards.
