I read your thing about becoming an editor. it is confusing , every catagory i go in doesnt have the link. Can you email the aplication or give me easier instructions?
Every category (except the ones that are way to big) should have the "Become an editor" link at the top right. Please provide a link to a suitable category that does not have this link, so we can check why.
...and even many of the categories which are too big (or otherwise not suitable for new editors) will still have the 'become an editor' link - don't assume the category is suitable just because it has one.
Heh. No, we wouldn't throw a new editor in THAT scorpion pit. Can you say "affiliate link farm nightmare?" Every jerk with a desire to rake in the big affiliate bucks builds his affiliate link farm and calls it a "directory"!
Why don't you go for something that's not quite so likely to attract affiliate spammers ... like, um, online Canadian drugstores or -- yes, hotel reservations?
I want to ask editors/moderators if you accept applications(I mean approve) to any financial categories? I have a great financial experience in both managing financial institutions and mortgage industry.
Do you need professional to help you edit category, or I can go fishing?
Please do not answer - "try to apply", if you simply do not need help at this time and you reject everyone, just be honest and say so.
Having great financial experience is not what we need in editors - even for the financial categories.
The ODP needs editors who can objectively review a site, determine whether it meets the DMOZ guidelines for listing, create a title and description that is concise and finally list it in the proper category.
We need fellow editors that have a desire to be here, not worrying whether the fish are biting. Sort of like Brad Paisley's song - "I'm Gonna Miss Her" where he chooses fishing over his wife. Not that editors need to be fanatical - just dedicated to going a good job.
Help is always needed and I don't think anyone was ever rejected because they weren't needed. Many categories are not suitable for a new editor, so being accepted into one of those is pretty much impossible.
I'm sure there are categories where a financial background would be considered a bonus, and where affiliate-or-lead-generator spammers weren't already overwhelming the unreviewed heaps. Not being a financial expert, I really don't know which they would be. That's always the first assignment: find a category that needs serious development, find sites that should go there and nowhere else. People that are successful at that ... become editors.
Example categories: Regional (state/country level) financial industry categories; large city business/financial subcategories. Niche areas in Business, where your industry knowledge can help you zero in on the firms that really exist and really are focussed on the niche.
