I was going to apply to be an editor but.....

I have used the ODP for awhile and realized that I could help to improve it but the categories I have tried to volunteer to edit; (Recreation:Guns:Gunsmiths ,Recreation:Guns:Reloading:Bullets ,Recreation:Guns:Reloading:Bullets:Cast Bullets) all say new editors are not being accepted. The categories are not too large ,the largest is 55 and the smallest is 3.

Hold that thought. For about a week.

It's nothing you've done wrong. The application form for new editors hasn't been accepting applications from anyone, for any category, for a couple days. A bunch of the scripts are not going to be running at all while we have some announced downtime. I suggest you try again in a week or so.

Well i think i know where the actual problem lies.. as i have tried to apply myself. After browsing the categories, when you reach a category where the listings are less, you will get 2 options. Viz. 1) Volunteer to edit this category. and 2) become an editor. If you click on "Volunteer to edit this category. " you will reach a page which says "This category does not accept new editor applications at this time" and when you click on "become an editor" you will reach a page where the form will be available by filing which you can apply for an editorship.

I hope this problem will be fixed soon.

This problem is due to a 'feature' of the Apache web server when handling encoded URLs during a re-direct. It worked three weeks ago, but because we've recently moved some machines around, and put re-directs in place, it's now broken.

I'll bring this up with staff, but they're pretty busy right now, so I wouldn't expect to see any changes for a while yet.

Over two weeks and still not taking new editor applications.Anyone know how much longer?

We're getting new applications. Try the "become an editor" link in the top right corner instead of the Volunteer link. The Become an Editor links seems to work for those categories you mention.

I was wondering how i am getting immediate response for my applications. (Declined ). Most of the categories are not accepting new editors. Lucky me!
