I Would Like To Find Out Why My Application Was Declined.

Hello,
I applied to be an editor for the following category on Friday 4/9/04:

http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Kitchen_and_Dining/Appliances/Countertop/

My editor name was going to be: thenunz

I just received the notice saying that my application has been declined.

The category that I applied for has no editor, only 83 links, and 6 of those links are actually dead links that I already found as I was doing some preliminary research work on the category.
I will be able to donate a solid 10-20 hours per week to my volunteer editing job, to help the ODP grow (as I stated on my application).
I thought that I had a letigitimate shot at it.
Would someone kindly let me know why my application was declined, so I know what to correct or improve upon?
Thank you so very much,
Ben N

The following is general advice, not necessarily specific to your application. Assuming that you are upfront with your affiliations and have reasonable grammar and spelling it would be worthwhile considering the following.

When you apply for a shopping category it would help if you were aware of what is eligible to be listed in that area. Read http://dmoz.org/Shopping/faq.html#1 .

Read the Guidelines http://dmoz.org/guidelines . Take particular note of the bit about titles and descriptions.

Don't be disheartened if you get turned down, it is not personal, new applications are a difficult judgment call. I am sure that on occasion we turn down competent people with the right intentions. On the other hand, at times we let in people who want to be editors for the wrong reasons, or who not have the ability to contribute in a helpful way.

I was turned down the first time I applied, applied again and was accepted the second time.

Thanks for the info Johncotton.
I read everything in the general advice areas, and I thought I followed all of the guidelines already.
I would still like to know why my application was declined, so I know exactly where to change things a bit.
Even if they would like to PM me and not post it here, that will work too.
Thanks again,
Ben N

Did you carefully read the information in that FAQ? The first item defines what types of web sites belong in the Shopping branch. These are the types of web sites that you should be including in your application.
1 - What is Shopping?
Shopping/ contains sites of which the primary focus is to allow the consumer to select and obtain goods and services over the Web. Common examples include:
  • Integrated online shopping-cart systems that allow the user to order directly over the Web
  • Online shopping-cart systems that allow the user to generate an order form to be sent to the merchant via fax or snail-mail
  • Simple directories of products and prices that the user can order via mail or phone.
The key is that the site contains three elements: lists of products for sale, prices, and information on how the consumer can obtain the product from their own home.
If the user can't purchase the product from the web site, then it doesn't belong in Shopping. We need you to show us on the application that you understand what belongs in Shopping.

Thanks Donaldb.
I will rework it by using ALL retailers, instead of a retailer and 2 manufacturers.
Then I will re-submit my application.
Thanks again,
Ben N
