Hi there editors

I submitted quite a few sites not to long ago. Im not using this thread to find out there status but rather to ask if one HAS to post a thread on this forum to find out your status before you get listed.

Is it possible to develop a good site. Submit it to the correct category and just lay back until the day comes when your site is reviewed and then listed.

Im just merely asking out of curiosity

Yep,
thats what the ideal is, asking for status really does not help you unless you are one of the few sites that never made it through the suggestion process.

For that reason, we offer the status check. To be honest most of us don't know why people feel they have to check back every x days once they know we received it, but they do. Thats the reason we put a 6 month gap on supplementary requests.

I was thinking the same thing when I read the posts of webmasters wanting to know how long before they get listed.

Tell another thing. How do you know if you request to be listed into DMOZ is received.

Are you suppose to receive an e-mail saying that "we've received you submission" or do you just have to hope and pray that you submission goes through properly.

No, you don't get an email. You do get a "Site suggestion received" screen when you have submitted, and if you want to make doubly sure (glitches have been known to occur) you can always ask for status a month after suggesting the URL.

It is possible to create a good site, NOT submit, and then just lay back and wait until the site is reviewed.

All submitting does is make sure the site doesn't get completely overlooked when editors are looking for good sites on a subject.

It is also possible to not create ANY site, but just go out looking for good sites not in the ODP -- and suggest them. In fact, not only is it possible, but this is actually the intended use of the "suggest URL" button.
