I am involved in web design and I have gained my knowledge from a college educated background.I applied for a listing with dmoz about 4 months ago and it is still not listed.I can only assume that dmoz " the directory " is mainly run by the older gereration who, because they have nothing else to do,decide to act as volunteers and are immediately accepted as editors because they, throughout their years, have given so much to the community or worse still because they are ex military people who have done so much for their country. The only problem with this is that most of these people or so it appears to me are ****ing senile and tend to forget very easily and,it goes without saying, have absolutely no knowledge of web design.

It is for this reason that i still have no listing with dmoz and anybody who has a problem with that, including your ****ed up senile dmoz editors can contact me at the given email (and my name is not ****ing yarrr but raymond proctor)anytime that they want to discuss their negligance because that is what it ****ing is.

Well Raymond, do I gather you've given up on the idea of becoming an editor within Dublin or maybe Santry? That's a pity because we can always use honest folks (of whatever age) with intelligence who can express themselves fluently.

..and now for the oft repeated boilerplate:

You might have misunderstood our objectives and how we operate here. ODP is a volunteer organisation building a directory as a hobby. Editors edit where they wish, when they wish and as much as they wish within the constraints of their permissions. We have no schedules or systems to force people to do work that they don't volunteer to do. ODP is not primarily a free listing service for website owners and it does not attempt to process their listing suggestions within the time scales desired by them.

Some volunteer will process your listing suggestion in time but we can't predict who or when that might be. Elapsed times can range from a few days to a few years. There is no need to re-suggest your website and doing so could be counter-productive because a later suggestion overwrites any earlier one.

Raymond, your post reminded me of something my maternal grandmother used to say.

"Fools names and fools faces. Always seen in public places."

Can we say, "sour grapes"?

What does web design knowledge have to do with being or becoming an ODP editor?

eh, what? ... erm, it's half past three [querulously] :D

With a college education one would expect an intelligent analysis of the practicalities of running a directory of this size. Are there other tasks than listing a website? Given the huge variety of topics and sites, how meaningless is the question of how long does it take to review a site? How are the (how many?) editors organised in respect of the (how many?) categories? ... and so on.

Of course many people have addressed these issues in other posts and a bit of research in the forum threads will give you all the answers you need.

regards

PS  OK, I know - it's actually quarter past seven (at least, where I am)

It is a shame that you hold ex-military in such low regard.

These are people who care enough for their country that they write a blank check to their government for any amount, up to and including their lives.

...but that is way beyond the scope of this forum.
