I am somewhat confused as to whether or not ODP is still operational. On the page for submissions, the copyright date is 2005. On these forums, it is 2007. I'm not sure where to post this...

Why wouldn´t it be operational when the website is up and running?

I believe that most pages have the 2007 copyright date.

Because the copyright date is 2005 on the submissions page, as I stated, and because it might be abandoned like many sites are if the date is not currrent. In that case, it may not be running; it may just be up because nobody took it down. That is my concern--that it is running.

I believe that most pages have the 2007 copyright date.

As stated in my first email, the Resource-Zone pages that have the 2007 copyright date on them.

The following pages are:
Copyright © 1998-2005 Netscape Communications Corporation (Terms of Use - License)

http://www.dmoz.org/add.html
http://www.dmoz.org/about.html
http://www.dmoz.org/help/become.html
http://www.dmoz.org/socialcontract.html
http://rdf.dmoz.org
http://www.dmoz.org/help/submit.html
http://www.dmoz.org/guidelines
http://www.dmoz.org/erz/

Thus, the business section of this website is far from up-to-date. I think I have a right to know whether the submissions part of the website is still working. Perhaps I am talking to the wrong person. If that is the case, would you kindly inform me to whom I should talk? Thank you.

These forums are not owned by the ODP or its parent entities. These forums are owned and administered by a group of Meta editors. The difference in copyright dates is not unusual for two separate projects. ;)

As for why some of the ODP pages haven't had their copyright dates updated and others have, that is something only AOL could explain completely. If I was going to guess, I would guess that the priority would be to update the main pages such as http://dmoz.org regularly and the other pages are lower on the priority chain. Of course I am not going to guess. ;)

I can assure you that the submission process is working.

I´m not so sure of the importance of the copyright date.

I don´t know what you have the right to know, but you can always contact staff at dmoz.org concerning questions regarding ODP.

Why does the copyright year even have to be updated? Why does the date have to be current?

The copyright date on a document should actually refer to the year it was created. I never understood this obsession webmasters have with updating the copyright year.

I have moved out the posts regarding the ODP copyright to this new thread, as they were off topic IMO for the Quality Control thread.

RSM, the pages you point out are all static, informational pages. It isn't uncommon for those kinds of pages on a site to only be updated when they *need* to be updated. Obviously, no changes have been made to them since 2005.

If you look at the bulk of the site, though (i.e. click on dmoz.org and start clicking on the various categories) you'll see that all of the directory pages say "Copyright © 1998-2007 Netscape". That should make it clear that the site is still operational.
