Is the ODP becoming even more important?

Maybe it's just me, but Google has gotten increasingly screwed up in the past few months. I remember back when I consistently found what I needed (ie, information) on the first link returned by Google. But now, the first 15 links are usually things like "http://www.brain-cancer-victim-money-now-gateway.com/brain-cancer-cure-business-directory.html" There's no information, unless I'm a moron who wants to join another pyramid scheme.

My point is that I suspect that the ODP will start to become even more important to good surfing in the next few years. At the very least, it will be a refuge during the Great Google Wars.

I think that this stuff is cyclical. Google and others search engines are constantly making changes to how their information as SEOs and webmasters learn how to game their results. This is a never-ending battle that ODP is really not a part of, other than the fact that we constitue the largest single source of trusted links that any search engine can rely upon.
