Is there a way to get a list of categories that are...

...especially short of editors? I just applied for the category that interests me most, and was rejected (conflict of interest in the fact that my site would be listed there had NOT occurred to me, but good call on the part of the person rejecting the app).

I'm still interested in editing, but was wondering if there is a list of neglected catagories. I have such strange interests I have a feeling that one of them might appeal to me.

I can't imagine that conflict of interest was an issue. We have many editors who's sites are listed in the category that they edit. Were you maybe favouring your site above the competition in your application? We don't mind people listing their own site as long as they are being fair to their competitors.

Rejection

Was there a reason given for the rejection? I doubt that you wanting to put your site in the cat you're applying for would be relevant either, unless you were showing bias towards it.

As to what category to apply for, instead of searching for just an area without any editors, choose a smaller category in a topic that you are interested in. An editor who is knowlegable about the topic edited is certainly more desirable.
