Is There an Official ODP IRC Channel?

I've tried searching all over. I found one that claimed it was for ODP editors but there was barely anyone in there.

I've searched the forums ('irc' is too short a search term) and IRC search engines (searching for topic "ANYONE ASKING FOR SITE STATUS WILL BE SHOT" ).

Does one exist?

I believe there is a closed channel for editors. But as far as I now not a public one.

Any particular reason you were looking for an IRC channel?

Sir , I believe there shouldn't be one. Why? Well...

Like the person whom founded this forum, I use vBulletin. It is a LOT easier to track down abuse than with an IRC server. Therefore, posting at this forum is better.

Second, people can threaten or bribe editors via IRC. Some other bad effects can happen from this. Plus, if it were opened to the public, the IRC server would be flooded. The server would be offline all the time.

I like forums for being archived, searchable, and refereed.

I like IRC for instantaneous response to whatever inane little questions I have, questions that I wouldn't necessarily consider forum-worthy. Or for ODP related conversation with other ODPhiles. Or for just showing my happy affiliation with ODP.

I can definitely see ODP IRC servers being hammered to death if they existed, which is too bad. If only people were as well moderated as the ODP listings...

You could always apply to become an editor, and give something back to the community. You may even find an editor-only IRC channel to keep you happy...
