jglogau, editor status

Hi:

I am not sure jglogau is the editor handle I used but
I am bummed. I submitted my application and I now realize it will be rejected. This is the catagory I applied for:

http://dmoz.org/Business/Financial_Services/Medical_Billing/

I DIDN'T write sample listings because I thought that I shouldn't try to reword a competitor's wording but I now realize DMOZ editors are expected to do just that, BUT be fair in their editing.

I would like to revise my submission with sample listings.

Yes, I have submitted my company Preferred Health Resources:
http://www.medicalbillingphr.com

for this catagory and I am waiting for those results.

Regards,
Jordan Glogau

Well, I'm no meta, but can almost guarantee that without the sample URLs you would have been rejected. That category is also larger than normally asigned to a new editor. Normally editors are encouraged to start in categories with under 100 sites (sometimes this is quoted as under 30).

I'd suggest re applying for the resources sub cat http://dmoz.org/Business/Financial_Services/Medical_Billing/Resources/ to start, if it's the field that interests you. Otherwise start in your hometown, or a hobby category.

Once you have done some editing that can be checked to make sure you understand the guidelines you can apply for larger and more varied parts of the directory.

Please read the guidelines http://dmoz.org/guidelines/ before writing the descriptions in your application - they don't have to be perfect, but do need to show you understand the basics of description. Check spelling and grammar again before you push the submit button.

It is OK to submit your own site *if it belongs in the category*, but remember to declare any affiliations with the sites and the category when applying - not just financial but intelectual affiliations as well.

Finally you are correct with your belief that we *don't care* about you editing your own and competitors sites *provided you treat them all equally*.

Hope that you apply and can be an effective editor.

Hi:

Thank you, its what I expected. Now I know how to do things correctly.

I will take your advice and apply for the suggested shorter catagory.

Regards,
Jordan
