Just trying to understand the site submission process ?

Hello editors of Dmoz,

I was hoping perhaps I could gain some assistance - I'm aware you get literally thousands of emails on such matters and I do sincerely apologise if this is "just another headache email".

I run a website on revision for students, teachers and schools. This is a website thats become one of the most popular within the UK with thousands of schools, teachers and students now using it for resources. It has become arguably the number one authority within its specific field of interest.

I submitted it to Dmoz approximately a year ago in a category that is within my related field and where other websites that are offering the same as myself are listed. Just to add a great deal of these other websites are no longer actively maintained nor have they been for many years - they are also littered with advertisements while mine has none.

Yet unfortunately despite having a website thats popular, regularly updated and current as well as arguably the best site within its field I still for the life of me cannot get it successfully listed.

I have read your FAQ section on ensuring it is the correct category, ensuring there are no spelling mistakes and the description is accurate but to no avail. I suspect there is no editor for this specific category which leaves myself in limbo and desperate for assistance - with my experience and knowledge I have even applied to be an editor but was told to choose a broader category by the reviewer as my feedback - this I did in my follow-up application and I was then still rejected.

The category I am applying for is something I am passionate about but also have a great deal of knowledge on and it is disheartening as I have no idea what I need to do to get listed - even when I follow the feedback process..

Please - help?

Some volunteer will process your listing suggestion in time but we can't predict who or when that might be. Elapsed times can range from a few days to a few years. There is no need to re-suggest your website and doing so could be counter-productive because a later suggestion overwrites any earlier one.

Hi Molly,

Thank you for taking the time to reply - it is greatly appreciated.

I suppose my question on why my editor application was rejected when I followed the reviewer feedback is the only thing left to query then; The reviewer feedback suggested I pick a broader category which I did and I re-submitted my application stating this was my previous feedback along with my previous application information - it was then still rejected without any reviewer feedback.

What would be your view on this?

Thanks for your time,

It is very unusual, in fact unlikely, that an applicant would be rejected without some comments regarding the reasons for rejection. Please look again at your rejection notice, as I would be very surprised if there aren't any comments there.
If you weren't told to not apply again, please consider re-applying. There are many editors who were rejected a few times before acceptance, so do not be discouraged.

Hi Molly,

I've had a look - I applied 3 times to become a Dmoz editor - the first time had no comments, the second time had feedback on choosing a bigger category which I implemented and and then the rejection for that application again had no feedback..?

Would screenshots of proof be of interest? - you can see I have only ever had feedback once on 3 applications - this feedback I implemented and then I had again no feedback still on why I was rejected despite implementing the said changes...disheartening beyond belief.

I clearly see feadback in all the replies you got.
For some situations we have standard text to send.
In other situations we add specific comment.
Part of the application proces os that you are able to understand the standard reply, determine which (one or more) of the reasons applies to you, and solve those issue(s). It is the type of work an editor has to do each day.
