In real sense, submitting site to DMOZ is easy but getting listed is hardest game of the world.
It isn't a game at all. If the site meets the guidelines it is just waiting on an interested editor to perform a review. Sometimes that takes a while and there is no way to predict how long or to speed up the time.

We have submitted our site <url not copied> several times - it is more than 1 year old and we were attempting since the infancy of our site.
It sounds like you may be working against yourself. The submission instructions specifically say to submit a site only once, to the single best category. If you have been 'attempting' for over a year (by re-suggesting the URL) then you have continued to overwrite previous suggestions. This means if the editor interested in working the unreviewed chooses to review by suggestion date (some do, some don't) then your suggestion sinks back to the bottom of the pool. I strongly encourage you to stop re-suggesting as it only serves to slow the process down.

Also we took help from other SEO companies in Kolkata but there were no result.
See most of post above. Editors do not consider SEO strategies, practices or tactics in regards to a review. In fact some (many?) SEO practices make an editors job more difficult thus slowing down the review process.

We are just frustrated. Now we don't know whether our site will be listed or not - whether we should add it again or not. Last time we were told to read submission guidelines and FAQ. We did it each time we went to apply.
The ODP never guarantees any sites listing, so there shouldn't be anything to be frustrated over? Suggest the site and move on to promoting it in other ways. You can tell if your site is listable by looking at the guidelines, as long as the site doesn't fall under the
Generally Not Included it will eventually be listed. As for reading the submission guidelines each time you re-suggested, you must have missed one key part:
The Submission Instructions said:
Procedure After Your Site is Submitted:
An ODP editor will review your submission to determine whether to include it in the directory. Depending on factors such as the volume of submissions to the particular category, it may take several weeks or more before your submission is reviewed. Please only submit a URL to the Open Directory once. Again, multiple submissions of the same or related sites may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of those and all affiliated sites. Disguising your submission and submitting the same URL more than once is not permitted. (emphasis added by me)

Even we sent a mail to the concerned editor. We didn't get even a response mail. This is really too much depressing.
We know the importance of listing of a site in DMOZ. But - but - but.........
Sending an email to a named editor really is irrelevant. Most editors will disregard any emails regarding specific URL's and any editor in a higher category, or with branch/directory wide permissions (such as editall's or Meta's) may be the editor performing reviews on a given day. I still don't understand (and never have) why this is 1)Depressing and 2) Why so much importance is placed on a listing? If a site cannot stand on its own without one link from dmoz, then all the links in the world wouldn't make me choose to send them money.

Nothing, you have done all you can by suggesting your site. Now you should work on other promotional strategies and continue to make your site useful for your customers.

Is not our site considerable? A site owner should stop his site if it is not listed in DMOZ.
We don't discuss specific URL's and I suspect that your URL will be removed from your post shortly (if it hasn't by the time I am done typing already) as it isn't allowed. Again, the importance of a listing in dmoz is what? One more link. There are millions of sites out there not listed-they should all fold up and go away because one directory hasn't listed them yet? That is silly, many sites do exceptionally well without ever being included-those sites worry more about taking care of their customers needs than worrying what editors at dmoz think.
