Life or death

Getting listed on Google and ODP is a question of life or death. But there are many questions I don't know the answer. One: I am running a website in three languages (englisch, german, spanish). What happens if I register the entry URLs of each language version in OPD? Will I get banned for 'search enginge spamming' or something alike?

Two: Somke months ago we changed our URL from www.uruguayaktuell.com to www.uruguayinfo.com, because we added an english and a spanish version to our orinignally german portal, which was called www.uruguayaktuell.com.

How can I let that know ODP editors? And how can I motivate them to delete www.uruguayaktuell.com entries and add www.uruguayinfo.com in three languages to their web catalogue?

I really would appereciates advice.

Greetings, Manfred Burger

You can make your submission to any World language dmoz.org category that the site has specific language versions for (not babelfish or similar translations).

To change a listed site url make a 301 permanent redirect from the old url to the new one (talk to your tech guys) and then submit an Update URL request to the category the site is listed in (that is in the top right corner of the category page). You can check the status of that update url request a month after you submit it in the Site Submission Status forum.

Please read those forum guidelines before posting there. Thanks.

Well, getting in Google and getting in the ODP are two different things.

But depending on any outside organization over which you have no control or influence (that is, either Google or the ODP), for your life, is ... suicide.

I would not go so far. There are many things in everybody's life you cannot control. Or do you control the prices in the supermarket, who will win the next elections, the way some maniak drives in the car right behind you etc.?

Not realy.

Google partners on the Web include Yahoo! and Netscape. If you are having difficulty getting listed in the Google index, you may want to consider submitting your site to either or both of these directories. You can submit to Yahoo! ... You can submit your site to Netscape's Open Directory Project (DMOZ) by visiting www.dmoz.org. Once your site is included in either of these directories, Google will often index your site within six to eight weeks.

You don't have to be listed in the ODP to get listed in Google.

So, yes, while Google does take advantage of the ODP's directory eventually, they really are two different things.

My site is listed in Google and I don't have an ODP listing. Don't have a Yahoo listing either. In fact, my site was indexed by Google before I was ready to have visitors. An ODP listing, or the lack of one, will not be the life or death of any site.
