Hello guys,

Not sure how this all works, my site has been added to you directory, but not sure when if that matters at all, but when i do a search under some keywords that i think would match my site i am no where to be seen, ive also used a tool to see how many links i have and it said im not listed in dmoz but i can see my link clear as day as i came across it just by surfing you directoy.

As i said i have no clue how this stuff works but would think if i am listed in your directory, some keywords would have came up with my site.

Many thanks in advance :)

No, the search is not designed to help you find a site via keywords.

In fact, the search is only of marginal benefit to surfers. It is a tools that is best used to find categories.

Thank you for that, but if that is so why would it bring up all the sites with that keyword in the title but not the category, and not mine site ?

Again thanks

I do not know.

The bottom line is that if you can find your site by browsing the category then it is listed. How search does or does not behave is really not something that very many of us are concerned with --> our focus is on building a directory.

Might just be one of those "mysteries of the universe" we keep hearing about. :D :D

It depends how your site has been configered, the easiest way is to log on to the sites that do get listed, go to view on your browser, search source, see how they have optimised their sites, then do a simple "linksto" "theirsite" and find the Directories they are listed in, then follow their lead and submit there too. Getting listed in Dmoz is not a guarantee of automatic listings in SE's. That takes time, alot of posting, a lot of Directory submissions.

The ODP Search is updated at best once per week, so you may simply need to wait for the next update.

However, as stated above, the search function is there to find categories. The fact that it also finds a few sites should be regarded as a "feature", not a part of its central purpose.

That does, I agree, sound like a potentially desirable feature. But ... the ODP search source code is open: anyone may try to add that (or any other) feature to it.

Good search algorithms are harder to define and code than one might suggest. I suspect doing a really useful implementation of this feature would be require the kind of skills that are normally developed only in industrial-strength search engine staff.

Take a shot at it, if you wish.
