Hi Dom, and welcome to the forum!
The green ball shows up in every dmoz.org category, and if you click it, you are taken to the corresponding category in google.com. It doesn't mean that the category is neglected (or that it is well-tended, either) -- whoever told you that was making a wild guess which had nothing to do with reality.
If a site is listed in dmoz.org, it means that the next time external data users such as Google update their sites, the site will be included there. Only the other sites' owners can know when that is likely to happen, and it is not something we have any knowledge of or any way of influencing. {moz}

Thanks for clearing that up regarding the green ball.
Its been quite some time that the url has been listed in dmoz , but not in google,
Any Ideas how long I should wait or is there anything I can do to help he process.
i read that sticking the url on an already listed site in google helps. ?

The Google directory updates regulary from DMOZ.

But when that will be you will have to ask Google.
And I am sure there is nothing you can do to influence that process.

This certainly has no effect on the DMOZ or Google directory.
Google search? Maybe. But that is a totaly different subject. A subject we do not know enough about and are not willing to dicuss in this forum. There are many other forums where webmasters can get help on that subject. This category at DMOZ might be a good starting point to find such a forum: http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Chats_and_Forums/
