Dear sir,

We are http://www.odysseia.nl listed in http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Greece/Prefectures/Heraklion/Recreation_and_Sports/

but should be in
http://dmoz.org/Sports/Equestrian/Vacations_and_Touring/Europe/Greece/

This mistake happend as we submitted our site in the wrong category.
We do equestrian holidays which is much more specific in the last category as the 1 we are in now.

I made a change in the submitted site through this link
http://dmoz.org/cgi-bin/update.cgi?...e/Prefectures/Heraklion/Recreation_and_Sports

but now 2 months further nothing happend. Why? And what else i have to do to change to the correct catecory??

Thanks,
Sabine

Your site is not listed wrongly, but it can probably be listed in both the current Regional/Europe/Greece category and the one in Sports/Equestrian. The update request was received and a copy of the site is waiting for review in Sports/Equestrian/Vacations_and_Touring/Europe/Greece/ . :flower:

Six months between status checks, but the good news is that many editors view update requests with a higher priority than submissions.

I too have the same problem. My predicessor listed our site incorrectly. Can I just confirm that I use the "Update Listing" function. I presume I dont change any of the listing details, just add to the comments box at the bottom that I would like to request a move of category.

Yes, that is what you do - the "Update LIsting" button.

However, your predecessor didn't place the file - an editor did. All your colleague did was suggest it to a particular category - a volunteer editor made a call as to where it best fit, and possibly moved it to that category.

Go to the category where the site is listed and complete an update URL request, then wait patiently.

Caution: we will not change the URL unless the old one is not working, redirects or otherwise indicates that visitors should go to the new URL. This protects you from havng your listing hijacked.

2 sites

Dear Sir,

I must make my question more specific to get the correct answer.

I want site (this is already accepted) htttp://www.odysseia.nl mentioned in http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Greece/Prefectures/Heraklion/Recreation_and_Sports/

and
a new submission of site http://www.horseriding.gr mentioned in http://dmoz.org/Sports/Equestrian/Vacations_and_Touring/Europe/Greece/

but instead, as sujested by your organisation, i am waiting now for the site of htttp://www.odysseia.nl to be mentioned in http://dmoz.org/Sports/Equestrian/Vacations_and_Touring/Europe/Greece/
As this takes time, we now made the new site www.horseriding.gr to be submitted instead of odysseia here.

I hope you can follow me.
I cannot fill in a changing form, as the site www.horseriding.gr is not listed yet but if i submit this new site i will be accused of submitting the same site 2 times. So what i have to do now?

Thanks for your answer,
Sabine

A little addition as the question was "How do i change the URL of a site that is waiting listing".
1) Make sure that the old url redirects to the new one, or clearly put a text on the old site that informs us (and any other visitors) about the new site -> when an editor reviews the site he will notice the new location
2) You can make a new suggestion (but it is not needed if you follow 1.) for the new location, clearly state the old location and the fact that this is the replacing the previous suggestion. But you must also make the redirection, else we will qualify them as mirrors and we will decide which url to list.

Thanks, it helps a lot
But still a last question.

I cannot redirect the old site to the new one yet as the old one has a ranking in google on place 1 and the new one needs a lot of work before we reach the high ranking.

The old site will stop in about 6 month, we hope to have the new one ranking on place 1 than again. That means that some months will overleap eachother.

So say i submit the new site http://www.horseriding.gr in http://dmoz.org/Sports/Equestrian/Vacations_and_Touring/Europe/Greece/
were can i type than that this comes in stead of http://www.odysseia.nl who is waiting submission in the same site? Else maybe you desite to submit only 1 of the 2, but submit by mistake the old one.

That is why you should create a proper redirect. It will tell us, G and many other search engines that your site is moved. If you don't redirect the sites will be seen as mirrors.

Put any remarks in the descritpion field between [ ]
example
This is the description of my site. [please ignore my previous suggestion for old.url, it will be removed in the next months]

But you must make a redirect or clear text pointing to the new location. Just "We have moved to a new server. Click here to visit our new site." will do the trick for us (but not for G and other search engines, they still will see mirrors)

I submited the new site but was not able to ad the tekst between [] as you suggested as it is not possible to write more then 30 words.
I had to remove it else the submission was not accepted.
So hope all will oke with the new submission?
