Dear Sir or Madam,

Hopefully somebody can be of assistance. Yesterday, I sent a request to update a listing, as my web domain name has changed. I still own the old domain and will continue to use if for email purposes, though the web site has moved to the new domain name. Besides the domain name change nothing else has changed in relation to the site of content. Today I noticed that my business is now listed twice and just thought that I should make someone aware.

Kind regards

Terry

If the site is listed twice in the same category with different URLs (the old and the new) after an update request, it means the editor made a mistake when updating the listing. I tracked down the listing in question and removed the old URL. Thank you for the heads-up!

Just for the record, in this situation, when it's a question of quality control, you can post the URL; there is a forum thread dedicated to QC issues here.

Hi Nea,

Thanks for looking at that and for the information. I have just taken a look at the directory again and indeed my url is now only listed once, great. The listing is as per my old domain name <URL unnecessary> whereas the url update request was to change the domain name to <URL unnecessary>. I don't know if this is because the DMOZ directory takes time for changes to filter through or not and hence the old details are still displaying? Thanks again for your time, help and assistance.

Kind regards

As nea explained, the URL has been updated, and displays correctly in the public category.
Maybe you are looking at a cached version of the page?

Hi makrhod,

I take it that all of the pages that display as search results from DMOZ directory are cached then and as per my previous post. Hence, I understand that it may take some time for the changes to filter through and for the changes to display correctly in the search results. Thanks for the clarification.

Kind regards

Er, no.
I meant a page cached in your own browser.
The public page has shown the updated information since soon after the changes were made. But as you can see from numerous threads here, the search results can lag behind by several days to weeks.

I suggest you simply purge your browser cache and reload the category to see the current version. ;)

Hi makrhod,

Hmm. I had previously purged/refreshed my browser cache, which is how I could see that my second listing had been removed by nea. As you mention I guess the search results are lagging behind as I have been getting the following:

(REMOVED company name) - Provide a mobile holistic, sports and remedial massage service. Includes rates, about, qualifications and areas covered.
-- http://www. (REMOVED but said old domin name) Regional: Europe: United Kingdom: England: Berkshire: Caversham (1)

Thanks anyway for all your help and I'll just wait for the

Kind regards

Terry
