Listing Status Advice

Hi,

I've submitted many sites over the last four years to DMOZ. Every time I do a submission I'm extremely careful to adhere to every guideline, and the sites I've submitted are really quality sites (e.g. offers great content, no ads, etc). The sites are not related, and I do not own them - the majority are websites that I do online marketing for. I understand that it's not a good idea to submit the same website more than once, but since we don't get any confirmation if the site has been disapproved I'm curious if there is anything we can do to check the status?

I've read on some blogs that you can contact the editor for that category .. but I haven't seen anywhere to find their contact information. I've been reading on the resource-zone.com forum quite a bit as well, but the only suggestion seems to be "wait and see". I understand and respect that this is a volunteer run website, but I've been waiting for a few years on some sites, so if there is any way I can message the editor for a specific category for a quick update it would really be appreciated.

Thanks,

-chris

No. (But you can look for the site in the Directory if it is listed)

Editors are adviced not to interact with site-suggesters regarding the status of suggested sites, but the contact info is available on the editor profile-page.

May I ask what you would do if you would know that a website was disapproved.
Until now nobody has been able to give any reasonable answer.
Problem is that everybody can see which websites we will not list http://www.dmoz.org/guidelines/include.html#notinclude
So they should not suggest websites that are marked not listable in our guidelines.
If they would follow these guidelines they could be sure that the site they suggested will be listed (when that will happen in something completely different).
So either the guidelines were not followed when suggesting a website, such a website will never become listable and we see no need to tell the person who made the flase suggestion,
or the guidelines were followed and the only thing we can tell is to be patient.

If I knew that a website was disapproved then I would stop checking DMOZ with the expectations that one day it may appear.

Fair enough. I understand the submission guidelines and have always been careful to follow them so I suppose waiting is the only option. Thanks for the helpful insights.

You can do that now. Or not. Whether you do or not, you do for your own reasons, not to help build the directory. And whether you do or not, it won't affect how the directory is built.

The processes designed into the directory website are designed to give people the information they need to help build the directory. And, truly, there are many more processes that haven't been implemented yet, that would contribute to that goal.

It would be horribly counterproductive to divert valuable developer time to give information that really wouldn't help the organizational goal.

On a practical level, you can let an automatic service like Google Alerts do the checking for you... :)
