Listing

Hi,

I've got a similar story to the other guy who has been submitting his site for a while with no joy.

Although I've submitted our site twice, I'm unsure of why it's not being listed.

I've submitted my site under:
Business: Marketing and Advertising: Public Relations: Agencies: S

But it appears either I'm breaching a guideline I don't know about, or the editor of that category is asleep (the category hasn't moved/changed in a while).

My website is squareonepr.com.au

We're a public relations agency/consultancy.

The only thing I can think of is that it's a parked domain.
If you have a look squareonepr.com goes to the same place as the .com.au website... but I'm not techi enough to know if that's what's stopping the site being listed.

Any advice, feedback would be welcome.

I've submitted the site twice, and I don't want to waste the time of volunteer editors of DMOZ with weekly submits.

I don't have any broken links etc, everything is 100% above board.

Help!

Sure hope you do better PR that that quote indicates. :D

Wise decision. Weekly submit are a definite form of spam.

squareonepr.com.au

squareonepr.com

We would only care about one of those two, never both. If your suggestion does not make it clear which is the main site and which is the fraternal mirror, then the editor wil likely have to guess.

I will not contravene the rules of the directory by giving you a status check. I will tell you that it is an exceptionally spammy part of the directory with everyone and their mother trying to position themselves as all things to all people -- the spam was bad enough that I turned in my editing rights to that category because every time I tried to edit there I got so demoralized that I wanted to quit editing entirely.

Hey,

I've only ever tried to list the .com.au entry (never the .com).

I was just pointing out that there was a .com, and that they were both sharing the same folder... I was not sure if that was creating the issue?

Hey

I meant similiar as in I submitted a URL with no joy.

Not similiar as in he had a million broken links and he had dodgy stuff going on redirects and a dodgy website.

This is just a regular website, that should be listed as a PR agency under S.

I can understand the amount of spam in the section, and that's why I've only submitted an entry to dmoz twice over a period of about 6 months.

I'm sorry if I sound a bit defensive, but there are obvious benefits to being listed in DMOZ and it's particularly frustrating when I feel I've done everything I can, and the editor of S under Public Relations Agencies is either asleep or has another agenda?

After you have suggested the site you have done eveything you can do.

I'll tell you a little secret ;)
All DMOZ editors have an agenda completely different than yours (and that of all other webmasters).

Okay, wow, you're quite perceptive.

I understand it's a business, but if you as an editor/directory didn't want Public Relation agencies listed, then you wouldn't have that directory right?

So what am I asking for that is so absurd? I understand everyones trying to get a listing (for various reasons) but I'm just after some advice, am I doing something wrong, or is the editoral process for getting a listing broken?

If this is the wrong forum to discuss this please let me know.

The bottom line is that you have made your suggestion (do not make it again) and now you wait.

How long? Somewhere between 2 minutes and 4 years -- possibly more, possibly less.

And and editor's sleep habits have nothing to do with it. We don't operate on your schedule, we operate on ours. Smarmy remarks notwithstanding.

As I said before, interesting approach to public relations -- repeatedly insult the people who are responsible for getting you "ink." :( In my 15+ years of public relations practice, I never accused an editor of being asleep or of having a different agenda -- especially when I wanted coverage. I used to read the editorial calendar (think: FAQ), determine the editorial focus (think: category guidelines) and then deliver the single best pitch I could develop (think suggestion). I never once tried your approach -- but hey, I'm old and grey, maybe it works.

I not suggesting you suck up to us, but a little bit of mutual respect would be nice. (Notice that I never once used the word flack!)

Well I apologise... but I was looking for an answer... like someone saying hey, you've got this dumb piece of code in your index.htm or something?

I'm not a techie... I've asked the question in what I thought was the right forum to ask.

I imagine these questions get asked every day so I do understand the attack type attitude.... ie your a business so take it easy and in our time.

Again, apologies.

Obviously the guys who volunteer for dmoz do a great job and that's why the search engines use you guys.

Cheers

Well no they don't because they're forbidden by the rules of this forum. It's right there in the announcement at the top of this forum.

Frankly, spectregunner and pvgool have shown patience and tolerance above the call of duty. You show no sign whatsoever of having read post #4. Closing.
