Dear all,
I submitted a site <URL deleted> about a year ago, but not been able to get it listed yet. I knew that there was no editor available for the category, but I still submitted it anyway, believing that my submission would eventually be evaluated by an editor of higher category.

Just want to know whether DMOZ provides some ticketing system, something like when we are in long line at dentist. This way, long wait would feel less painful :D ?

Thanks,
Hendra D.

Site suggestions form a collection that editors can review if and when they choose. There is no queue, and a volunteer can review them in any order, or not at all.
So a ticketting system would be completely pointless, as indeed are repeated suggestions, which merely waste everyone's time.
For more information, please see this forum's FAQ.

Thank you for the FAQ,
I also have just read Editor Guidelines.

DMOZ might be just a directory/ cataloging system; however since it is referred by other world main directories and search-engines, so many like me depend on DMOZ for being seen or existence. Thanks to the Moderators, CatMods and Netscape that this directory is still well regulated and governed.

Let us browse to Contacting Submitters pages. I believe a lot of "ethics" in there. Please enlight me why communication is not encouraged between moderators and their submitters?

I'd have thought that the Contacting Submitters page you refer to was clear enough, but here goes:

Bugging editors to claim precedence is entirely unreasonable and doesn't serve any useful purpose. Most editors will ignore such messages.

At best, such contacts distract editors from doing what they volunteered to do. At worst, such conversations can end badly. Threats of physical violence aren't unknown and there have been incidents of real-world stalking.

The reasons are very simple, and explained many many times before, both in this forum and others, but I will repeat some of the reasons for you:
1. Editors are all volunteers, and we joined to spend our hobby time building the directory, not corresponding with webmasters.
2. Editors do not rely on submitters to find sites for them.
3. Non-editors are welcome to suggest sites, but DMOZ is not a listing service, so there is no "responsibility" towards those who suggest sites, other than that the sites will be reviewed by a volunteer one day.
4. Correspondence between editor and webmaster often ends very badly. Volunteers have been harrassed, threatened and even stalked in real life, so communication is actively discouraged.

<Added> Darn speedier jimnobles. I blame the time difference. ;)

Real life stalking? Wow, did not realize this could be that far.
I am truly sorry.

A gap between you might be too wide: moderators think that building DMOZ is just hobby, while submitters think that their life is at stake. The question is whether this gap is getting wider, and what other consequences it might bring?

I hope I could come up with some ideas...

Anyway, thank you guys for the explanation.

Regards,
Hendra D.
