I am a long term editor over at Wikipedia's medical project. We have been adding a link to DMOZ for many topics and advising against people adding external links to Wikipedia itself. DMOZ however is missing a number of categories such as gastroenteritis. Wondering where one would propose the creation of one?

Hello.

For Dmoz a category represents a /Topic, so first to be created we need to have a good number of sites (already listed) strictly focused on that /Topic.

Currently we have
http://www.dmoz.org/...stem_Disorders/
with several subcategories

but also
http://www.dmoz.org/...stroenterology/
and
http://www.dmoz.org/...nd_Water_Borne/

Currently it doesn't seem that a /Gastroenteritis subcategory is necessary or urgent, but when we will have many sites devoted specifically to that disorder the idea will be certainly taken into consideration. :)

Please don't post specific URLs here, if you want to propose new sites to the directory use the "Suggest URL" link at the top of a /Category_Page, and they will be evaluated.
However, remember that we do not provide any "on-demand service", so any change to the directory structure occurs only after an internal discussion.

Thanks anyway for bringing attention to this subject.

To add to the above, when suggesting some suitable sites, add something like [for a proposed gastroenteritis subcategory] to the end of each description.
Also consider applying for a small category in the area ^_^

Sure was just attempting to support the notability of the proposed catergory. With respect to epidemiology there are 5 billion cases of gastroenteritis resulting in 1.3 million deaths in children less than 5 (with additional numbers in other age groups).

Gastroenterology is simply the study of diseases of the gastroentestinal tract and therefore does not really apply. Food and water borne diseases are a little too general with gastroenteritis just being one type of food and water borne disease.
