Hi,

I this this is unfair, because the mexonline.com has a link in almost every category of the mexican part of dmoz directory. I think this is spam or the editor is helping him or herself. It has a lot of html pages indexed.

You can see here.
http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=mexonline

if the above link doesnt work, try to serch mexonline in the dmoz search box.

It has more than 79 urls listed in dmoz, in diferents categories.
and some of them doesn´t work or gives an error.

Could you plese tell me why this is happening on dmoz?

Regards,
Enrique.

Editors can choose to link so-called "deeplinks" to sites which they consider are an especially good source of information for the users of the directory (the surfer).

While it is, of course, possible that some "slipped through", the more likely interpretation is this - that it was, at the time the entries were added, considered to be a good resource.

Since you have brought this to our attention, I have no doubt that someone will get more involved in checking up on this. As you have an interest in this, it would be of help if you could identify which of the listed URLs lead to pages which are no longer there.

Thanks. :)

Looks like they stopped listing the archives after April 2004. It would be a hell of a job to remove that many and my guess is they are doing no harm.

The BBC has over 5000, articles related to one or another niche category, maybe an obituary or a report on a social issue. The same goes for other news gathering services. This is quite legitimate.

Mexonline provides a hosting service for some businesses to put up small sites and each of those ones is considered a separate site for our purposes. Other links may also be appropriate - articles on special interest topics etc. Some of the directories may be quite sparse although at the time they were listed it is possible that relative to other informational sources they were quite good. Today they may well not get in, and may be subject to removal in time as new and better sources come our way.

There are no site quotas, and (for editors) there are no site limits. You might as well say Geocities has too many listings.

But we'll be very interested if you point out ONE actual listing -- on mexonline or geocities or not -- that ought not to be there.

Many of these businesses now have their own domain, which is the site that they now actively maintain. So we'd rather list that one than their old mexonline-hosted one. It would definitely be helpful if you could help us identify those. Use the "Update" feature to let us know that there appears to be a newer site.

Thanks for your help!
