Now that I have found the forums, I realize that I have really made some gaffs.

(1) After looking for a URL I submitted 4-6 weeks ago in the category and by a search for its title and not finding it, I resubmitted the URL.

(2) Then I found the URL in a different category than expected, and submitted an "oops/apology" - but did so using the feedback form

Now I will try to make amends, please ignore the resubmission and the posting to the feedback and accept my apology.

In my defense I will point out that I backed into the existance of the forums only after clicking on a "volunteer" link, and exploring the information provided there. I would suggest putting a link to the forums on the same page as the feedback form, and a listing of appropriate topics for the feedback form.

Regarding www.mystic.ct.us, I have gathered that links only appear in one category. I originally submitted the link to the Regional category under ...connecticut:localities:m:mystic, and it was ultimately listed in connecticut:counties:new london:travel and tourism. How do I find out why it was changed to New London and not left in Mystic, since it is a Mystic site?

Also, since it contains information that is useful for local residents, does it need to be in the "Travel and Tourism" subcategory? I admit that my original description may have influenced its placement in "Travel and Tourism", but would be willing to come up with something else that is more general and reflective of the whole site.

See if this helps:

I haven't looked at your site in detai, and don't know the locality - but your site description is ""Lodging, attractions and places of worship for the greater Mystic area'

and --- Mystic is a village comprised partly of Groton and partly of Stonington - therefore, this listing includes info outside of Mystic village itself

I think that why it's in http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_Amer...ticut/Counties/New_London/Travel_and_Tourism/

and not http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Connecticut/Localities/M/Mystic

since the first page of the site says How to Get to Mystic, Connecticut - that seems to see it's not aimed as Mystic residents but travellers.

However, if you feel a move is still in order you could go to http://editors.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/upd...cticut/Counties/New_London/Travel_and_Tourism and make an explanation there, and see if the editor agrees.

Hmmm - I agree that the current site description and even the format of the site itself is presented more from a tourist perspective, even though there is information there for all.

Since my general purpose is to target the website at Mystic for both locals and tourists alike, I will take this as editorial feedback that the site probably needs some work. Then I will come back and suggest the move.

Thanks for your comments.

but the thing you have to remember is that REgional listings are generally made where a site is located, not where it is marketed or targeted.

OK, now I'm somewhat confused, or maybe I just don't know what you mean by "located". I am the author of the website, with some help from others. I am located in Mystic, and I used to host the website on a machine in my office. For many reasons, I have over time changed where it is hosted to Norwich, CT, then to Pawcatuck, CT, and currently it is hosted on a machine in New London, CT.

I did note in a thread regarding Realty sites where the DMOZ policy was to list Realty sites in the locality of the agent that created the site. The thread further noted that the existance of the policy was to counter Realty spamage. I don't yet fully understand what the problem is, but if its anything like the Spam in my e-mail box, I can understand the frustration and need to enforce some control over the situation. (I m learning what I can from the forums, FAQs etc, but it will take a while to catch up)

But I don't think that is a general policy of DMOZ, or is it?

The policy of the ODP is to list Real Estate sites in the category corresponding to the locality where the office of the business is located, not the location of the webmaster, or where the site is hosted.

As this isn't a Real Estate site, though, the rules are a LITTLE more loose.

As the site is about more than just Mystic, though (in spite of its name), the editor felt it is most appropropriate to list under a wider scope, in this case the county level.

Hope this clarifies.
