Just picking up on your last post - the one you made after 'informator' locked the thread. Naturally ODP members will defy all logic and claim that is fair. No doubt the Swedish wrote the 1st Amendment to the Bill of Rights.

Clearly flagging up every bit of misinformation published by the ODP about the ODP is far too embarrassing for some.

You said

There's only so much understanding you can gain from reading public discussions or publicly available documentation. To really understand how the directory (the entire entity, including its volunteer force) functions, you need to see it from the inside. If you're not open to the concept that perhaps you don't know everything there is to know about DMOZ, then all we can do is thank you for sharing your suggestions and let it end there.

I'll take a stab at it and you let me know where I am wrong eh.

ONCE UPON A TIME.......

There is a large cumbersome dinosaur called 'MOZ' or the ODP = Out of Date Project. Which breathes green mist that magically publishes pages of out of date content, not only about itself, but also many other websites.

There is a backend which most people would call a CMS... ODP editors most likely have some other name for it... perhaps: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.... but in reality - it is a CMS.... accessed via platform 9¾

Editors (Wizards) have access to specific areas of the content where they can weave magic and voodoo which adds to, modifies or even deletes some complicated text ONLY details.

There are different types of Wizards, some are able to overrule apprentice Wizards who have lesser magical powers, they can even turn them into frogs if they don't tow the line.

Sites which are added to the ODP are discovered both through Wizards finding them in a magical playground of wonderment called the world wide web, yet many are submitted to the ODP by Muggles such as Sir Tim Berners-Lee.... he'll naturally be interlectually challenged... as he's probably not a ODP Wizard.

Quite often those silly Muggles submitting their sites, become confused and submit to the wrong part of the directory. This is because they are stupid and not at all because the ODP is a badly constructed and confusing series of moving staircases.

Due to the vast number of Muggle submissions, it can take a long time to get listed. However, as the T&C's clearly state... no guarantees about anything ever.

When a website is listed... it's likely to change content... even URL... or be killed off by Loldemort. :(
But the ODP will continue to broadcast the out of date content - because... well... everyones an idiot if they ain't an editor... sorry ermmm Wizard. If only they all understood the intricacies of a filing cabinet... the world would't be so flat.

How's that sound?
:D
