Move submission to new category

Hello way back in the year I posted my site to be listed in the following category:
http://dmoz.org/Arts/Visual_Arts/Computer_Graphics/Personal_Galleries/

However I decided that I would like to move my submission to the following category:
http://dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Desktop_Customization/Wallpaper/Original/

Reason being is not only do I have your common wallpapers, I have created original wallpapers and so have my members. I am trying to find the best category to fit my site, and I think this one fits better. I do have other types of artwork like drawings and 3D as well.

I wanted to let you all know about the move and ask if there is something I need to do in order to move the submission. Also I am open to recommendations to another category if it is felt that my site would fit there better.

My website is: http://www.bboombotz.com

Thanks much for taking the time to help!

If your site is already listed in the first category then use the Update URL button and request the move like that. If your site has not yet been listed in the first category then submit afresh to the second category, with a note to the editor in the description field that you want to be listed in this category and not the one you originally submitted to. Make a reference to this thread.

Hope that helps. :)

My site was not listed yet in the first category. Also, there is no editor for the category I wish to move to. Should I just submit my site there?

Thanks for the help!

Forgot to mention in my previous post that a hyperlink was not allowed in the description field. I submitted my site with just the description since the description field only allowed a max of 30 words.

Should I email the editor from this category:
http://dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Desktop_Customization/

I kept going up a level till I found an editor. Is it a safe assumption that is the editor who will be editing the section I wish to get my site listed?

Thanks again!

Sort of! :) It is a logical assumption, since editors "higher up" in the tree tend to the branches beneath them, but there are no exclusive editing rights within ODP. There are 200+ editors with wide ranging editing rights anywhere in the directory who can and do step in and edit where they deem the need to be the greatest.

Should I email the editor from this category

By all means feel free to do so, but please do not expect a reply/acknowledgement as many editors simply choose not to reply to e-mails from submitters, because of the well-documented problems that other editors have had in the past.

Hope this helps.

Yes - submitting to a category that the site does not fit in will delay the processing of your submission as the editor will have to move it back to the category you first thought of anyway. Sites get listed in the most appropriate category regardless of a) where you submitted and b) whether there's a named editor for that category, so the most helpful thing you can do is to make it easy for the editor reviewing your site by submitting to the right place in the first place. :)

I did email the editor to that section I mentioned and not only did the editor reply, the whole move was taken care of. I was very impressed with how quickly she got back with me and very very thankful. I did email her back in appreciation for taking care of it so quickly.

I understand though why an editor might not email back, as I have read 'horror' stories on how some editors received threatening emails from people. This to me is really sad. People should learn patience. Yes you might wait a long time, but its not right to be like that to someone who is taking time from their schedule to do something for free.

Anyways, thanks to you all for answering all my questions and everything. And my hats off to firefly, as she is a very nice and great editor.

Thanks!
