Multiple domains single business

Hi All!

Online I'm known as Webmaster T some of you may know of me I'm one of the founding members of SeoPros.org.

I need clarification about DMOZ guidelines. Can you please comment on the following scenario:

An SEO company has 5 web sites. One web site serves as the umbrella site, describing all the company's services. The second site describes the company's submission services. The third site describes the ranking reporting services. The fourth site describes the meta tag creating
service, and the fifth site describes traffic analysis services.

Are these sites listable on DMOZ?

Hi apeuro!

Thanks for the quick reply! Could you please tell me where I might find this info as I would like to get as much information as possible.

Thanks again!

Webmaster T

Guidelines 'Site selection criteria' at http://dmoz.org/guidelines/include.html
"A site should not mirror content available on other sites."

Guidelines 'Spamming' at http://dmoz.org/guidelines/spamming.html
"One trick sites will use to try to get multiple listings in the directory is to submit their site (or similar versions of their site or sub-sections of their site – “Deep-Linking”) under different registered domains."

I hope this is the information you were looking for. <img src="/images/icons/smirk.gif" alt="" />

Hi senox!
http://dmoz.org/guidelines/include.html
Thanks I saw that it was actually one of the first things I read.

http://dmoz.org/guidelines/spamming.html
Your quote from here is the real information that I was looking for however, they aren't actually doing that it is a case of "micro" sites. Familair with that term? These are usually sites consisting 5-7 pages whose sole purpose is to sell the services they are selling on another site. Basically a low life spam trick but, live and let live, I guess. My primary concern isn't how it affects DMOZ as much as how it affects Google and other engines that use its results in their algos. I won't go into why this is important to SeoPros, but we do like to see how the standards we are proposing will be affected by content guidelines on many engines. On a personal note if the guidelines of even one directory or SE are contravened you may want to presume that none care for the activity or knowingly allow it. It was also told to me by a "supposed" editor of ODP that in fact SeoPros is wrong in our interpretation of the guidelines. If it comes from someone claiming to be an editor then we should, IMHO find out for sure. Thank you for all your assistance I will now check this doc to see what more I might learn from it.

Best regards,
Webmaster T

In answer to your question, the reason only your first page would be listed is that since the user can get from the front page to all of the other four pages, there wouldn't be a need to list all of the other four pages seperately.

This may also be relevant to your question regarding "micro sites", http://dmoz.org/guidelines/include.html#product "Product Listing"
&gt;&gt; Sites devoted to the sales and distribution of a single product should be avoided if they are affiliate sites or if the site is merely a distributor for a manufacturer already listed in the Directory. The purpose of the ODP is not to replicate the individual listings of an online shopping catalog. However, individual product sites offering substantial information, tips, advice, and usage information for consumers are generally acceptable. &lt;&lt;

Thanks

That should about do it. I should have just replaced services with products in my review of the information. From this I would conclude that indeed "micro" sites are contrary since these are just the same services sold from a different domain. I already know for a fact that they are all owned by the same individual. I found that through some whois queries. Though they did make an attempt to hide it.

Thanks to all that helped, and to all ODP editors you do a great job here. <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

One thing to remember is that a domain does not a site make -

One domain can have multiple sites [the oft-quoted Geocities is an example]

One site can be spread over multiple domains. (extreme example: I could buy a different domain for each page of content I have, but that doesn't make each page its own site).
