Multiple listing of websites?

The question is obvious, however for those who may don't understand it, let's say for example that:
www.domain.com is listed under
business/autos/wholesale and also under
regional/usa/montana/business

Is this permissible?

Thanks

In most cases, yes. Businesses are frequently permitted a listing both in Regional and in a topical category.

And, if the website is in more than one language (NOT machine translated) it is also eligible for a listing in each of the relevant lanugage World categories.

What we don't want is people suggesting sites to every category they think their site is eligible for. That type of activity is a seed farm for spamming, since each and every webmaster can immediately thing of a few dozen/hundred categories for which they think their site is eligible.

Thus the guideline: suggest once to the single best category.

Editors are usually the ones who double list sites, when we see it qualifies.

I bet the CNN site is listed thousands of times, as is wikipedia.

The number of times we choose to list a given site has nothing to do with any other site, it simply speaks to the perceived quality and content of the listed site.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Are you sure?

Well, I saw some sites that does not have any perceived quality and content except for the owner, however is listed 9 times in dmoz.

Oh, that website is an editor's site

If you feel its abusive feel free to file an abuse report providing the evidence you have indicating it is listed in violation of the guidelines. The site being listed multiple times does not automatically = abuse though.

Good sugestion... but who really cares?
Do you think by filing an abuse report someone like you will do something?

We take abuse reports very seriously and if abuse is found it will be handled accordingly. Of course I get the impression that you already know that. ;) I am not sure what you are getting at with the 'someone like you' comment but if you mean a meta editor yes the Meta community will take care of abusers.

You, apparently, since you've come here specially just to sling accusations around about it. If you truly are concerned about what you feel might be abuse (and editorial abuse at that), then please use the abuse reporting tool to report it. If, on the other hand, you're just here to make innuendos, then consider your job done; you can move along.

Multiple suggetions for a site

Hi guys,

Getting back to the inicial point, if I get it right, I can suggest one site in diferent "locations" within the same category, can I??

We are a small hotel chain with properties in diferent resorts in the Balearics (Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza) and in Barcelona. So I'm not pretty sure if I have to suggest the site in each destination/region or you (editors) will take in consideration the nature of my site and dicide the best category (s) to liste it.:icon_ques

tnx in advance :D

The Suggestion Instructions specifically say:

Suggestion Instructions said:
Please only submit a URL to the Open Directory once. Again, multiple submissions of the same or related sites may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of those and all affiliated sites. Disguising your submission and submitting the same URL more than once is not permitted.

If the site is listable in more than one category the editors will move it there. The exception would be if the site was in various languages (not machine translations), then it could be suggested once to each language its available in. You would suggest the main URL to the single most relevant category and if the editors felt other categories were warranted, they would forward them along for you.

Hope that helps.

Thank you shadow575,

But I'm talking about the same category but different locations/regions. I'm not quite sure where is the most correct:
"Regional: Europe: Spain: Travel and Tourism: Lodging: Hotels"
Eventhoght, it is also correct to listed in:
"Top: Regional: Europe: Spain: Autonomous Communities: Balearic Islands: Ibiza: Travel and Tourism: Lodging"
or
"Top: Regional: Europe: Spain: Autonomous Communities: Balearic Islands: Mallorca: Travel and Tourism: Lodging: Hotels"
etc.

Thanks

Suggest it to the one category that is most relevant to the entire sites content and suggest it there. It's ok if its not perfect, the editor reviewing it will make sure its properly placed.

Based on the possible categories you suggested yourself I would suggest that Regional: Europe: Spain: Autonomous Communities: Balearic Islands: Travel and Tourism: Lodging may be most appropriate.

However, as has been mentioned previously the editor who reviews your website will ensure that it is listed in the appropriate place and will take care of multiple-listings (if it is appropriate).

Barcelona isn't in the Balearic Islands so if the site covers hotels in the Balearic Islands and in Barcelona, Spain level would be more appropriate, not Regional: Europe: Spain: Autonomous Communities: Balearic Islands: Travel and Tourism: Lodging.
