multiple submission penalized

i submitted to the dmoz directory a while ago (directly), but then also used a free submission service for all kinds of search engines. I didn't know that there are also other directories which as subdirectories from dmoz. And it might even resubmitted to dmoz directly again.
do i get penalized for that. and does penalizing mean that i lost my chance of getting approved?

It is possible, in extreme cases. It takes a fair amount of really obnoxious work, though. And I suspect most free submission services don't mess with the ODP -- "free" pretty well means "automatic", which pretty well means "ineffectual for directories."
