Is there any problem with my request?

Hello,

I submitted a thread to request status of http://www.arquan.com/ArCartInfo.htm which was submitted to the dmoz category of http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Softw...Shopping_Carts/

and also to change the url of the site submitted to be http://www.arcart.com

All of the threads around me before and after have replies, so I wanted to check and see if there was any problem with the way I submitted my status check request. I assumed that since there was no replies, there may have been something wrong with the way I submitted my request.

Please let me know and I will adjust it if necessary.

Thank you.

Threads merged. Please don't start new ones about the same topic because at best it wastes time and at worst it confuses. jimnoble

Hello,

I requested an update on the status of my listing in the computers forum, and waited for a long time. (about 4 months). I kept checking it. Finally, it reached page 7 and then dropped off the board. My status request is no longer in the computers forum. What does this mean please?

Thank you.

Thank you - one more question

I appreciate the link. I have bookmarked it.

Question: I requested to change the url of my initial submission. Is it ok to do that? I'm wondering if I haven't gotten a status update due to the possibly unorthodox request.

Should I just re-submit the site to the directory again with the correct url, or should I just wait and see what happens with my inital request to change the url?

Thank you very much.

I don't understand

Just a short explanation: my company specializes in shopping cart software and general Internet programming. At the behest of an SEO specialist, they suggested having a seperate site dedicated to just the shopping cart product since that is the really the thing I want to promote the most and it is not a good practice to list a url that is not the root of the web site. It is dedicated soley to the shopping cart product.

I read the submission guidelines initially when submitting, and again just now. I don't see where the site does not follow the guidelines.

These are the only two items that I could see that could possibly apply, but it is not a mirror site, and it does not contain the same content as number 2 would indicate.

1. Do not submit mirror sites. Mirror sites are sites that contain identical content, but have altogether different URLs.
2. Do not submit URLs that contain only the same or similar content as other sites you may have listed in the directory. Sites with overlapping and repetitive content are not helpful to users of the directory. Multiple submissions of the same or related sites may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of those and all affiliated sites.

Could you please tell me how I can go about re-working my site arcart.com to be compliant with DMOZ so that I could get it listed? I certainly did not intentionally submit the site and not follow the guidelines. I am only wanting to get that site listed, as it is my company's main goal in life to promote.

I apologize for unknowingly submitting a site that does not follow the guidelines, so if you could be so kind as to give me some advice on how I can correct it, that would be greatly appreciated.

If I cannot get arcart.com listed, and promoting our shopping cart software is the most important thing to me, would you suggest trying to get my company's site arquan.com listed under http://dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Business/E-Commerce/Shopping_Carts/
category instead?

Apologies for the incorrect procedure and I greatly appreciate any help and advice to get this accomplished.

Thank you, but one more question

I submitted www.arquan.com to http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Designers/Full_Service/A/ on 12/14/2004. That is a relavant general category, could I request that it also be placed in the http://dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Business/E-Commerce/Shopping_Carts/
area as well? I didn't really tailor the arquan.com submission to be for shopping cart software.

If I cannot have it added to the additional category, what is the procedure I should follow to request that I be allowed to change the description to be geared toward shopping cart software instead of programming in general?

Many thanks again for the replies.

A clarification regarding my last post

Regarding my last post, I was not asking that my other submission be modified in any way at this point. It's much too early to ask for anything as I just submitted it a few days ago.

I am only wanting to know what I should do if I have a request to modify a description before a site is listed. Make the request now, or wait until the site is listed and request a modification of the description?

My apologies for not making my question more clear in my previous post.

Thank you again for all of the information this evening.

I would advise doing nothing, most editors find that a very very large percentage of the descriptions have to be changed anyway. Very few descriptions are accepted as submitted, most are changed, and a large number are totally scrapped and rewritten. There is no way to for you to amend an existing submission.

I submitted www.arquan.com to ..Full_Service/A/ on 12/14/2004.
Oh dear, oh dear. You were kind enough to quote the submission guidelines a few posts ago. You presumably skipped over this part though.
Step Three - Identify the single best category for your site
Here's an early status report. That suggestion has been received and is awaiting review. We can't predict when that might be. If it hasn't been listed in 6 months, please ask again in this same thread any time after 20th June 2005.

If you want to change your submitted description from
Arquan - Dynamic internet applications, e-commerce, design, databases, hosting and co-location. Specialize in Coldfusion. Based in Wichita, Kansas.
to something different, go right ahead and submit it to the same category; it'll overwrite the earlier one. I recommend reading our editor guidelines first if you want to avoid the total rewrite fate that bobrat mentions above. If you take this option, we won't be amused if you take it as an opportunity to request an earlier status report.

Finally, the website doesn't give a full address (Sedgwick is a county, not a locality) so an additional locality listing is highly unlikely.

Oh No-I hope I haven't ruined my chances by making newbie mistakes

I am starting to panic fearing that I have done something horrible that will sink the fate of my site being listed in DMOZ. I am a newbie and it was my first attempt at site submission and using the forums. I do greatly apologize for any mistakes, and please don’t hold it against me that there are things I did not understand when making the submission(s).

Many, Many, Many thanks for the explanations in your previous several posts that help me to understand the situation. I read and re-read the guidelines before submission, and thought I had done things correctly.

When submitting the second site (my company’s), I did not mention shopping cart software in the description, because I thought that would be overlap of information with the other submission and not in compliance with the guidelines. After reading dozens of posts, I found a situation that is similar to mine (IE, a main company site and a product site), and now understand that you consider a product site of a company’s to be just a deep link. Once again, my sincere apologies for the mistake.

I feel that my submission of my company’s site is in the correct category thereby following rule #3 about the single best category. I just did not include the term shopping cart software anywhere in the description, due to not wanting to overlap any information.

I will do nothing as bobrat has suggested, and just wait and see how the description reads (hopefully, they will understand the shopping cart software is my flagship product and include that phrase in the description) when the site is listed (oh, I pray it gets listed).

Regarding Sedgwick / locality: Actually, Sedgwick, KS is a town in KS. It is my company’s PO Box mailing address where accounting is located and not just a county. Is it necessary to have a mailing address in the same town as the physical location of the business? My physical company and data center are located in Wichita, KS, hence the “Located in Wichita, KS”. I have added the physical address of the business to the website as well due to your comment about Sedgwick being a locality.

Once again, my SINCEREST apologies for mistakes made from being a newbie. I have learned a ton due to your explanations in the previous posts. Please consider me severely punished as I have been agonizing over this now for some time fearing I have ruined my chance of being listed in DMOZ. Above all, I do not want to irritate the editors AND want to follow the guidelines with the strictest adherence.

Best regards and thanks again for everything. I’ll just wait and see how my company listing goes now.

No need to beat yourself up. http://www.arquan.com hasn't been penalised in any way and you haven't ruined your chances at all. Anyway, it's not chance or a lottery.

All that's happened is that you're now aware of our submission standards and your various submissions have been umm regularised.

You're by no means the only submitter to make the sort of mistake that you did and we're quite used to it :) .
