Sorry in advance if this is the wrong forum (to post this question) or if I’m just a plain idiot.

But has anyone ever had the problem that there threads they started are now missing?

I posted 2 new threads (in the "How to Submit" Forum) in the last few days titled:

Where to submit? www.validatedsite.com
Where to submit? www.delmardb.com

Now for the life of my I can't find them.

Was it b/c I reached a limit and you are not allowed to post a new thread only so often. Or is it b/c when you submit category requests you should do them all at once. I am Very confused.

The one reply I definitely remember getting was from TheHelper who offered some very good advice as to where to submit www.validatedsite.com

Does this happen often (threads disappearing or being erased)? I want to make sure I'm doing this right b/c the last thing I want to do is piss of some Admin/Editors.

Thanks,

I am quoting an answer another editor gave on a similiar thread:

OK - this is the "How to Submit" forum, not the "Where to Submit" forum I understand that it's tempting to ask editors where we think web sites should be listed, but that's really not the mandate of this forum. You need to figure out the most appropriate category for your web sites and submit them.

Basically those "Where to submit" threads were okay at the beginning, but they were outnumbering the other enquiries in the How To Submit forum lately. So please look for the most apropriate category yourself, thank you.

Ahhh...my apologies. I saw others posting (in the “How to submit” Forum) Where to Submit questions, so I assumed it was ok… but we all know what happens when you assume.

My bad, I will refrain from asking where to submit in the future.

Last question, is their a forum to ask whether or not a domain is listed in the entire DMOZ Directory? Or should we just be patient and wait until the domain search function is fixed? Or would the solutions be to post a new thread in the Site Submission Status Forum if you are wondering if you domain is listed? Or should you not do this either?

Again sorry about that, I’ll find the categories on my own from now on.

Fair enough. The directories generally show a description of what they are intended for, so the submitter (me) should make sure to read them and make their best judgement on relevancy.

In some cases though, there is no description for a directory. In example,
http://dmoz.org/Science/Environment/Water_Resources/Groundwater/ discusses the a couple of the sub-categories but not the directory intention. Would that be a prudent time to inquire in this forum as to the relevancy of the suggested site and the directory?

I am trying to figure out how to be most accurate and efficient with everyones time.

Thank you again,

Actually that a fair question. All categories are supposed to have descriptions, but sometimes it just has not happened. Internally there is a constant push to do this, but sometimes categories were created some time ago when descriptions were not considerd so important, but you need someone with the knowledge of the area to write good ones.

So many categories, so little time :p

Thank you for the response. I guess seeing missing description information like that should be a sign that there is either a lack of editors or they are stretched. In which case that would mean I should "put up or shut up" and offer to volunteer as an editor, presuming I am qualified. In this case I am and will offer those services.

Thanks again,
